Julian Assange? I don't know whether he would really be working for the Russians. It's quite possible, but he could just as easily be working for yet another nation state. Or maybe there's something else that drives him. He either way does have an agenda that's greater than just whistleblowing, yes — that much has already been obvious for quite some time now — and he has also already been described as a narcissist.

The vilification of the Russians however is another red herring, started by George W. Bush and escalated by Barack Obama. Not that the Russians are completely innocent, but you must never forget that what we hear about the Russians here in the West — and especially so from the US government and the US mainstream media — is by definition suspect, and most likely propaganda aimed at feeding the Cold War revival that started under George W. Bush.

    Edward Snowden?

I'm not sure but I think Snowden would still be hiding in Russia at the moment.

The fact that Bradley Manning chose to become a transgender is the very reason why he was pardoned.

Both Barack and Michelle Obama are very pro-gay and pro-transgender, and the US Acronymian left-wing — insomuch as that can be considered left-wing when compared to other nations, but I'll stick with the US-specific jargon in this context — has already long been "politically weaponizing" the concepts of sexual orientation and gender identity. It's a trend that has blown over to Europe and other areas of the world as well in the meantime.

Had Manning been straight, then he would still have been on an extended vacation at a barb wire hotel today.

Barack Obama was a technocrat. He stuck to what was mandated either by tradition or by law. To a certain extent, so did George H. Bush at the time. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, George W. Bush and Donald Trump on the other hand are more into freewheeling — they feel that the law applies to everyone except for them. But then again, their degree of narcissism can be considered of clinical proportions compared to that of Obama and Bush Sr.

Reagan and Carter were not narcissistic, and neither were JFK and Eisenhower. I don't know enough about Lyndon B. Johnson or Gerald Ford to say anything on account of narcissism on their part. Nixon didn't strike me as a narcissist either, even though he certainly was a crook — sort of like Dick Cheney, but with OCD added to the mix.
for sure, we must always keep the awareness that the boogie nation now called Russia has always been a focus of negative propaganda. It almost seems silly to be back in a place where we have to invoke those particular monsters...but then Putin just might be a monster, a professionalized Trump.

A though occurred to me today:

Historically it has been the side representing the right that has made inroads with bad actors... Nixon-China, Reagan-Soviet Union, and potentially Trump-what's his name...Un

I realized it is because they are on the same vibe...they are speaking similar psychological languages.

A bit cynical I think. I believe it is because they have enough experience as 'others' particularly Obama that they are sincere in the belief that people deserve to be treated equally and more importantly and maybe the only thing important is 'fairly'

I had a superseding theory. I think Manning was actually a deep cover operative for the United States in the war effort. Most people were likely not aware of this so the 'wheels of justice' ground on and ground up all in its path.

'busy boy' being the pertinent words, imo.

So if I had a corporation and headed my driving division with someone who hates cars and driving, I guess that'd be a great business decision based on Trump's current model.

    Speaking of boys...

Under the Presidential Records Act, the White House must preserve all memos, letters, emails and papers that the president touches, sending them to the National Archives for safekeeping as historical record

But White House aides realized early on that they were unable to stop Trump from ripping up paper after he was done with it and throwing it in the trash or on the floor, according to people familiar with the practice. Instead, they chose to clean it up for him, in order to make sure that the president wasn’t violating the law. “We got Scotch tape, the clear kind,” Lartey recalled in an interview. “You found pieces and taped them back together and then you gave it back to the supervisor.” The restored papers would then be sent to the National Archives to be properly filed away.

Things will be very interesting within a couple years.

Incidentally, I think it's a great thing what's going on with North Korea...time will tell.

Either people are starking raving mad or I really am from another planet. Not the first time I had this experience.

I've been thinking for years that people vote for stupid people because they think they're smart like them...really...wade through that one as I don't have the time to write it cogently.

Now read that again and then tell me what's wrong with the above sentence.

They never were very bright. Remember, they also gave the world George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice.

No, you're not from another planet — at least, I don't think you would be. But anyway, yes, they are stark raving mad.

You're close, but it's more like "Stupid people vote for other stupid people because those stupid people think that the other stupid people are smart enough to tell smart people how to live their lives."

Jesus doesn't even look like he visited the Middle East in that photo. He came from Scandinavia or something.

Looks like Assange isn't our friend at all. Former ally 'Iain' from Edinborough worked with Assange from 2013 - 2016. Then he saw what was really behind Assange's motives:

Iain had struggled to understand WikiLeaks’ sudden embrace of the alt-right. After the Trump Jr. chats emerged, Iain went back over the logs of the WikiLeaks Plus 10 group chats and also dug into Assange’s pre-WikiLeaks history. “What happened in 2016 was just so shocking to me. I was just trying to figure out, What was that? Where did it come from? And so I started looking back.”
He finally found what he sees as a kind of Rosetta Stone into Assange’s thinking in a leaked email Assange wrote way back in 2007 while soliciting support for the nascent WikiLeaks concept. One of the goals for WikiLeaks, Assange wrote, “is total annihilation of the current U.S. regime and any other regime that holds its authority through mendacity alone.”
Who the feck is Assange to decide any of us should be annihilated?

To be fair, he didn't say that he wanted the annihilation of the USA, nor of its people, but of its regime. That's quite a different thing.

Annihilation is a very strong word. The US isn't a simple regime. What's gonna replace it?

If Assange has gone anti-west, then it's annihilation of more than just a US regime.

Who are the world powers that will step in?

Who's ready to stop a new and worse regime?
