growin' up pre-tv on that farm in northern iowa the fam played a lotta cards, specially on those looooong winter nites. Fast forward 70 years and we're still playin' whenever we get together. And so, I know the power of the trump which is only taken by a higher trump. or.... if he's in the game... the joker.

'n I'm well aware of its metaphorical value...

and so... from where I'm lookin'... seeing the chilling irony in the name has never been lost to me... the joker in trump clothes... and he knows how the denial game is played...

checkmate... if'n ya think u can beat the wizard at his own game...

    pissed and annoyed? fer sur...

    Hey palooka,

Northern Iowa...I was born in Woodbury county...but adopted in Lincoln Nebraska.

RU a chess player...I'm an acting Team Captain on Gameknot. We had one of the best teams on the site until our really great Captain went through some life changes and kinda left us hanging. He and another guy founded the team and they love it dearly. I'm maintaing the team for their sake but honestly it is getting a little tiring...too many things going on and our team has lost its drive to win. If you want to play on a team you are always welcome to join us.

I was adopted too. But not in Iowa.

I never played enough chess to get good at it. Maybe one day. We play a lot of games, but not that one.

if you ever want to join a team.....

we have a very wide range .... from beginners ..... handicapped to the very good...I"m pretty much in the middle...

Our team is really on the downslide...You got any interest in adding/running an online chess team to your repertoire.

    Hi Elen,

its funny that you say that...Most times I feel really bad for my opponent when I'm winning....but my opponents seem to be merciless to me....

I'm compassionate in gaming, too. We have a friend who likes to play games with us because we can be competitive without being cutthroat. He likes that because he can just enjoy playing the game.

Another friend of ours is so desperate to win that he'll cheat. We don't like to play with him.

competitive to cutthroat is a fine line...

    When I'm losing I can feel homicidal...when I'm winning I feel guilty... that's me in a nutshell...

i nominate yer friend for sainthood. lotta us came here with the bug to be first, the bug then watered & fertilized liberally by our familial, social, cultural, and political, poisonous pedagogies.

i wonder where that imprint came from... the race to be first in the eyes of god, perhaps???

Our friends raised their kids to be competitive, with deliberation. They themselves are very competitive. It's a personality type. And they also taught their children to protect each other and have each others' backs. That family comes first. I think that's what helps stop the children from killing each other which can happen in families.

that imprint is there in all of us... and... i'm purddy sur, i feel where it came from...

it's neither good, nor bad... it just is what it is... until maybe. it ain't...

how we handle it makes for those personalities... but we are all predisposed to certain ways... often contradictory...

yup, good tactic... promo the blood... it helps keepin' us from blowin' ourselves up 'n not blowin' ourselves up all at the same time...

but... is it balance??? not for me to say...

but it is what it is...
