Fox News was so nice to the Don. They cut him out of this picture when covering Ghislaine Maxwell. And still he trash talks Fox. How terribly ungrateful of him.

Not just Americans. I see a lot of people who are ungrateful these days, and not just that, but I also see a lot of cynicism, rudeness, opportunism and arrogance in the world around me, especially among younger people ─ teenagers and people between twenty and forty.

Maybe they're all the products of daycare centers, and parents who never taught their children any values.

In my experience, it is generally ─ not always, but generally ─ the people who've gone through duress and suffering who are the gentler and more empathetic ones. People who go through life unscathed tend to be harder and colder.

My son continues to be compassionate, hard working, polite and responsible. And so does his girlfriend. And they know many young folks like themselves. So there's hope. At least a little.

The changeover to having two parents work and not having grandparents in the house was a bad one, imo. Families have been fractured. Mine had to move all over the country for my Dad's job, but my mom was able to stay home. It's not realistic to expect children to be raised well by proxy.

We seem to have believed that more money would solve our problems. The markets will make it all work, right?

    Wrong.

I actually remember when this trend set in. It was in the late 1980s, and suddenly everything became centered around "cocooning" ─ as they called it ─ and around unfettered selfishness and materialism. Social interaction went from hospitality and social acceptance to a competition between egos, bragging and showing off one's material wealth, as well as outright antisocial behavior.

It was also the time when the recreational use of drugs ─ and especially so-called "designer drugs" like XTC ─ became mainstream in the discotheques. People in their twenties started looking up to and behaving like the drug dealers in Miami Vice, with their fancy-looking sports cars and their expensive designer clothing. The use of cocaine among young people was soaring in those days, and the music they were listening to also changed.

I guess what we're seeing today is the consequence of that era.

God, that is exactly what I hated about the eighties. I wanted to shoot the TV whenever I saw Madonna's 'Material Girl' video.

Ecstasy was hot and not yet illegal when I was in college. And a lot of folks were doing it. That and cocaine. Many a sinus got murdered.

That was when I started to worry. And then we got hit with reality TV.

I guess so. But we can't blame it all on him. Everyone is responsible for themselves. Reagan didn't tell those people to start using drugs, or to become antisocial. That was a choice that they themselves made.

His accent always bugged the hell out of me...despite being critically acclaimed or at least greatly titillating the masses... damned boneheads ...
