It's pretty amazing to watch the contortions folks will go through to justify things, jumping through flaming hoops to explain away bad decision after bad decision. It must be some kind of survival thing.

This exemplifies the character of the man, Trump.

Unanswered questions have hovered over the September 3 shooting death of Michael Reinoehl of Portland, Oregon, at the hands of federal law enforcement officers—four days after Reinoehl had himself shot a right-wing protester named Aaron Danielson to death on the streets of Portland—like a dark cloud, in large part because the police themselves have been opaque about the event. There were no body cameras used, no surveillance video available, and constantly changing official stories about the shooting from authorities.

Now, after an investigation by ProPublica and Oregon Public Broadcasting into the case, those clouds now loom dark and ominous. The portrait that emerges of how the shooting transpired, including witnesses saying the police gave no warning, and that Reinoehl did not display a gun, suggest that the 48-year-old fugitive was not arrested so much as he was simply executed. UPDATE: Donald Trump confirmed today at a rally that this was the case, telling a rally audience that “they didn’t want to arrest him.”
There is more and more evidence that the shooting death of Michael Reinoehl of Portland, Oregon, by federal law enforcement officials was not the result of an arrest turned deadly. In fact, recently published investigations point to a much darker conclusion, suggesting the 48-year-old Reinoehl, wanted in connection with the shooting death of right-wing protester Aaron Danielson, was an extrajudicial execution carried out by our government.
    Law and Order?

    No. The opposite.

Senators are distancing themselves from Trump. McSally wouldn't name him. Senator Sasse just let loose.

I don't personally care for the Washington Examiner site. But that's just me.

Trump was on three networks, Biden was on one, and Trump still lost his ratings war.

Considering how much he talks about ratings...

I'm getting a feeling that the New York Times doesn't like Trump.

The newspaper he's been trashing and demeaning and insulting for the last four plus years? Now why ever would they not like him?

Honestly, he really is stupid sometimes.

The Trump campaign spent millions of dollars sending mailers encouraging his supporters to request mail ballots and vote in-person. The Trump campaign sent three mailers to my household, addressed to the prior occupant, encouraging him to request a mail ballot and vote in-person early. (Who hasn’t lived here in several years and is no longer on the voter file. That is some poor targeting.) His money has largely been wasted because Trump’s supporters are listening to his rhetoric about mail ballot fraud. Even if occasionally he grudgingly tells his supports to vote by mail or vote early, Republicans aren’t doing it yet. Maybe Trump feels he can waste his money this way, but throwing away money only means the Biden campaign has even more of a cash advantage over Trump.

He encourages to both mail in and vote in person? Why is Trump continuing to tell people to break the law? Voting twice is a felony offense. Does he want voters jailed?

Here's a hopeful, real-life account from an outdoor campaign event in Virginia:

    A quick story…

Today Trump supporters crashed our event.

We held an outdoor campaign event at Aquia Harbor in Stafford, VA, and had a decent crowd of about 30 people. With a large RASHID FOR CONGRESS sign behind me, it wasn’t long before Trump supporters began driving by, honking, and waving their flags.

Soon a few Trump supporters showed up on foot, waving their flags. Perhaps it was an attempt to interrupt or intimidate, or, just to exercise their free speech. After all we respect the First Amendment. In any case, I had a decision to make. Do I ignore them or do I tell them to leave?

I decided neither. Instead, I called them over.

I had the mic and called out, “Hey y’all, you don’t have to stand over there waving that flag. You can come join us. Our events are open to all. We’re expanding our tent, not closing it down.”

To their credit, they came and joined our group and listened in.

“What’s your name?” I asked one of the gentlemen. “Chad,” he responded.

The Q/A continued with our supporters. Eventually, Chad asked about the Supreme Court and the claim that Democrats want to “Pack the Court.”

I responded, “Sure, let’s talk about packing the court. Let’s talk about how Republicans have won the popular vote only 1 of last 7 Presidential elections but have nominated 14 of last 19 SCOTUS picks. Let’s talk about how Mitch McConnell denied President Obama’s appointments of 110 Federal judges, and a SCOTUS appointment. Those 110 appointments were then appointed by President Trump with conservative judges, and the SCOTUS pick denied to Obama was given to Trump. And now, going back on their own rule to not appoint SCOTUS justices in an election year, the GOP wants to appoint a justice in an election year. You can’t accuse Democrats of a hypothetical event that never happened while ignoring the actual court packing done by Republicans.”

Chad the Trump supporter was silent and finally responded, “Yeah I agree that’s hypocritical.”

I give Chad credit for being honest and calling out the GOP hypocrisy and responded to Chad, “Thank you. Here’s the truth. I’m running as a Democrat because I believe the Democratic platform is more aligned with justice. But if you’re looking for me to say that Democrats can do no wrong, and Republicans can do no right, then you’ve found the wrong guy because I don’t believe that. I’m committed to upholding justice as the supreme standard. You have my word.”

Chad responded, “I can agree with that.”

The tone changed from one of hostility and distrust to one of recognizing that we as Americans truly want the same things—justice and fairness. Soon after Chad left the gathering on his own, but not before sharing with our host that he walked in viewing us as the enemy, and left realizing we actually have a lot in common in wanting to uplift our nation.

But it’s what happened after all this that truly left me in awe.

As the event ended, at least 5 of the attendees walked up to me and shared that they’re life long Republicans who have never voted Democrat before, and have always voted for my GOP opponent. But now, for the first time in their life they’re voting for a Democrat—Qasim Rashid—for US Congress.

    Why?

They’re drawn to our campaign that refuses to respond to hate with hate. They’ve seen my opponent’s attacks on my faith and see us responding with compassion and justice.

They see that we’re talking about the issues that matter like healthcare, broadband, the environment, small businesses, and stopping COVID19,. They see that I’m committed to ensuring I represent all my constituents, not just those who vote for me. And they see that I truly represent the people and reject CorpPAC money.

We left the event with more volunteers, more support, and a more united community. That’s what we’re fighting for. We need you in this fight with us.

When Rashid was asked about the perils of running for office:

So basically, according to Rashid, he’s been getting death threats “every few days,” which he says is “the norm…for me & many immigrants, POC, Muslims, women, Black Americans, & basically any marginalized demographic in America.” According to Rashid, these threats have only “gotten worse” since he “filed to run for office,” but concludes: “Look, I can’t do much if someone wants to kill me,” but “I’m running for things worth dying for,” like health care for everyone, ratifying the ERA, reforming criminal justice, etc.
And Lara Trump says that the President is 'just having fun' while he's trashing Governor Whitmer.

Yeah. Sure. Whatevs. Just a little fun.

I feel it's a good time to re-clarify some things.

I don't recall how many times Joe Biden has run for the office of the President. I haven't looked it up. I do know how many times I voted for him. None. Zero.

For me, Biden is to Trump what Trump was to Hillary. The anti-vote. Votes for Trump were votes against Clinton. Votes for Biden will be in large measure (imo) anti-Trump.

In America, progressives and liberals don't really like the Democratic party. So they don't vote and Republicans keep winning despite not having a platform supported by most Americans.

I'm mostly non-partisan in life. I have never lost or ended friendships due to politics. Not even in this era. I haven't had any family relationship strained over politics. It just doesn't happen.

There are, in fact, still many non-partisan Americans. There have been all along.

We are in a time of polarization, but not everyone is at odds.

I was quite unhappy when Joe Biden announced that he was entering the Democratic primaries. I was certain he'd end up giving the election to Trump. I was very wrong. But I don't think that the polls and such show that Biden is greatly loved. I think they are what I have already said. The anti-vote. That is what I believe is going on. And I think that Republicans have just taken off their masks and shown their true colors, as I and so many others have seen behind the rosy veil.

Trump has made it abundantly clear that he does not respect the Constitution, or our norms, or many of our laws. That is not something that I can in any way support.

Biden just can't even touch Trump when it comes to being unfit for office.

As the Founding Fathers said, [I] hold these truths to be self-evident.

What does a thief do when he's losing? Steal.

    From the Wall Street Journal

An order by the U.S. Postal Service to pull its uniformed police officers off city streets has sparked a legal battle pitting it against a police union, when the agency is already under scrutiny for delivery delays in a presidential election that could hang on mail-in ballots.

The agency’s unilateral order ended daily patrols meant to prevent robberies of blue collection boxes and mail vehicles, and has left letter carriers without escorts on unsafe routes in some of the nation’s biggest cities...
    And another:

Efforts by some members of Congress to observe firsthand how mail is being processed at large facilities in the final weeks of the election have been blocked—a policy departure by the U.S. Postal Service for visits that were once routinely approved, the lawmakers said.

It’s unclear how many lawmakers have sought access to postal plants, but at least five, all Democrats, said they’d received inconsistent explanations for the denials.

Rep. Bill Pascrell, a New Jersey Democrat, visited a large mail-processing plant in Kearny, N.J., on Monday, according to his staff, after being refused entry last month. He told the Postal Service on Sunday that he was coming.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal last week, Mr. Pascrell said he wanted to see if the plant is keeping with its workload, including mail-in ballots. He said that he and two other members of the New Jersey Congressional Delegation never got beyond the lobby.
This is what a loser does when he can't win according to the rules of the game. He cheats and steals.

Isn't 5G supposed to be terrible? Aren't Trump supporters in large measure against 5G? I'm sure I've been hearing a bunch of noise about 5G.

The White House is pushing the Defense Department to grant a massively lucrative no-bid lease of 5G spectrum to a company with deep Republican—and Trump—connections.
If Trump manages to pressure the Pentagon into approving such a contract for Rivada Networks, it would be “the biggest handoff of economic power to a single entity in history,” a senior administration official [said]
In a research paper published Oct. 7, telecom industry analyst Craig Moffett said "the whole story smacks of cronyism at best and reeks of 'the swamp' at worst."

And, surprise, surprise, surprise, Karl Rove, aka Bush's Brain, runs the company Trump wants to give the American People's spectrum to. One of the original Swamp Beasts.

The Pentagon is reportedly pushing back, wanting to take its time vetting any possible impact of such a deal on military readiness. “Pentagon lawyers have told the White House that their department has no authority to issue RFPs for the purpose of leasing or selling off its spectrum, and they think that to do so in the manner the White House is pushing would be a complete deviation from normal rules and regulations.”
    Gee.

    I mean, 5G.
