Longer than ten years I've not gone to movies.
In my town Villingen they have closed this big one Theater.

Today there is such a Little Box with 3 movies at the same time.

    The Thirteenth Floor

This film reinforced (along with "The Matrix") my unproven hunch that, more likely than not, we exist in an "ancestor simulation" as theorized by Nick Bostrom and others.

Thanks for the references, Rikki. It's always good to find fun and thought provoking films.

I don't like the idea of being a simulation. But I can't help thinking of the Star Trek TNG episode where Picard lived the life of a member of a culture which had gone extinct. He was left with a relic, a flute. Not exactly the same, but very moving.

The idea of myself being a simulation is creepy to me. I think it's the idea of being 'artificial'.

Dream, imho, for example; between micro and macrocosm what appears to be chaotic in the microcosm may very well be part of strict order and organization in the macrocosm, and vise versa.

We generally think of artificial as something that we humans "make" that simulates or mimics a natural organic process or "thing". But maybe on/in another level/environment we (humans, our environment) might be perceived as artificial from a different point of view?

To me, being in a simulation does not negate the idea of me having soul and spirit. Distilled down to the most fundamental form, soul and spirit are a type of energy.

I think words and their meanings fail us in some situations.

    THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (Trailer)
Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.

    Gorgeous movie!

    Predestination

This film exploded my mind! I watched it a while back. It's not Earth shattering in terms of a moral apocalyse, but boy, does it ever start the gears spinning after watching it. (imho) It's a brilliantly produced movie and masterfully written story. It's actually enjoyable to watch more than once to see the subtle clues you miss during the first viewing.

    My Dinner With Andre

Mind boggling that a film about a conversation between two people having dinner could be so profound. And yet, at almost 40 years later still be so relevant. An intellectual masterpiece, imho.

Malc just posted a segment of this movie, thanks for posting the entire thing. I keep waiting for the friend listening to say, "Inconceivable!" (See The Princess Bride).

    A.I. Artificial Intelligence

I just finished watching the film "Artificial Intelligence, A.I.". Imho, it's a very good story and a well produced. This film has a lot of messages within it if you bother to scratch below the surface. The theme fits nicely with the "simulation theory" to some degree. Some people are vehemently against developing AI. However, if one takes into account the "simulation theory" (which is becoming more probable), we are all a form of AI. A profound ending, too.

The simulation theory is a good argument. What really gets me is when the scientists are looking at the very foundation of matter and finding computer code...

    "...You're magnetic ink."

Dream, it seems the more we are discovering about our world, the more we find patterns and sequences of cycles. What may appear to be chaotic on one level can actually be "order", or "reorder" on another. Pi, fractals, the golden ratio, etc,... Maybe A.I. has a better idea about "Living On Virtual Energy" and has provided the "source code", if we are clever enough to use it correctly.

Recently I have been watching "The Magicians" on Syfy http://www.syfy.com/episodes.

I have noticed it brings some deeper considerations to the ideas of pursuing magic. I wonder if anyone else has watched these episodes?

Also I saw a GREAT coming of age story "Bless me Ultima" that contrasts the understanding of the roles of a Bruja with the Curandera.
