    Tron

I feel that this movie represents our society in a technical allegorical way. Also, it was a cutting edge film with it's first ever computer graphic effects.

    The Penitent Man

A well done, thought provoking movie concerning time travel and it's ramifications.

This is from the same people who did the Matrix trilogy (the Wachowski brothers), who I am convinced are either insiders or are given plot information by insiders.

Anyway this movie presents multiple narratives in different times (some in the past, some in our present age, some in the future) that all unfold together, using the same actors in roles that are similar in role but with a lot of variation in detail, in a way that suggests the idea that our incarnations in different times are all interconnected and simultaneous experiences.

I watch very few movies in general, but mostly only documentaries, lectures and that sort of thing. In a similar way I read very few fiction books, but mostly non-fiction. I think that most movies really are a waste of time, and just recycle the same stories and try to implant a lot of erroneous ideas in peoples heads about any number of things. But art and literature and theater are very old crafts, and now and then there is something that can interest me and feed my imagination.

As far as that Salo movie on the last page, I had to look up the Wikipedia article about it and I think I'm at a loss. I'm disturbed just by the idea of it.

I very much agree. However, unfortunately there are positive and negative influences that affect us. Without one we wouldn't know the other.

    Pay It Forward

This has to be one of the most influential movies I have ever watched (and not just because Helen Hunt is in it ). The message is one of the most positive and powerful I have seen in any movie. Delivered in a most humble way. One of the best, imho.

The film 'Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom' (Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma) (1975) from the Italian movie director Pier Paolo Pasolini was made at a time (1975) when Italy saw a disturbing rise in the popular support for extreme right political parties, movements, - whom compared the Mussolini era to the heydays of ancient Rome.

The (true) story on what took place at the end of WWII, shows the perversion and repulsiveness of (Italian) fascism as a political system in all its facets, and to what extremes people will go to survive.

The film is widely seen - also imo, as an absolute cinematographic masterpiece.

bsbray, I''m not surprised you're at a loss, but to draw your own conclusion you just should watch the whole film - several times, actually, and although it might not be your cup of tea it will by all means 'Stretch your Horizons And Stimulate Deep Thoughts About Perceptions'.

    It's not a popcorn-movie...

    Phenomenon

Harnessing the potential of the mind and making every effort count. This life is too short to waste.

Interesting film the same guy who did 5th element, took him seven years to make. He added the black goo at the end of the film as a symbolic feature.

I'll take your word for it my friend. I've sat through a couple of snuff movies before, and while this may not be a snuff movie, what I did see made me better appreciate all the other wonderful ways I have of spending my time.

    Apocalypto

About the only sub titled movie that I have sat through completely to see the ending. Mel Gibson, as well as the production crew did a very good job with this movie.

One of the best independent movies I've seen. Powerful.

Submitted for your approval Carol For Another Christmas (rare 1964 movie) Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Rod Serling, a variation on "The Christmas Carol"...this one is bleak, sometimes surreal.
