That's awesome, Aragorn. You sound like a natural prodigy, if that's the right word.

You made me think of Lindsey Buckingham who has a really unusual playing style. And also the Edge from U2 who apparently built his own guitar early on and it was quite a thing.

I've occasionally dreamt about playing again which is a sign that I should/will.

Well, I do come from a family with several musicians, some of whom professional, so it's in my genes. But on the other hand, I haven't been playing much anymore in the last 15 years or so, so I'm quite rusty now.

He was one of my first influences, even if only because of the "Rumours" album by Fleetwood Mac.

Well, I must admit that I'm not that familiar with Edge's background, but I didn't know that he had built his own guitar.

But are you sure it's him you're thinking about? I know that Brian May of Queen did indeed build his own guitar, the Red Special, with his dad. The body has sound chambers in it and was cut from a 200-year-old block of oak. He's still using that guitar today — it is also being offered commercially now by Burns, a British guitar brand — and instead of a regular plectrum, he uses a British sixpence as his pick.

Well, if you already play the piano, then you have an understanding of or intuition about music theory, and then learning how to play the guitar will be a lot easier for you.

    Erik Satie - Gymnopédie No.1

This music comes in a short and many many long versions. Here's the short one:

And if you want to use it for long studies, here's a long one:

Some more Animals As Leaders, because this is a really nice track, and when Tosin sets in his first solo, you can clearly hear some Steve Vai influences in there.

Another Animals As Leaders song, this time a more "commercial" and accessible one, for which you don't have to be a jazz or metal fan.

And here's another one of my guitar heroes: Paul Gilbert of Mr. Big, and before that, of Racer X.

And, um, no, I can't play like this.

My son's guitar teacher leads a band and was writing his own instruction book. He's very talented and makes it look easy. He learned how to play as an adult in a very short amount of time, to the amazement of the teachers at the music school he went to. He's an insomniac and so would practice during the many hours he couldn't sleep.

I'm not sure if he's still working on the book because he just became certified to be an Emergency Medical Technician specializing in respiratory distress. (I wrote it out the first time! no acronyms. )

Here's another virtuoso band making great instrumental music. I only first discovered these guys yesterday, and no, they are not the elderly ladies in the video.

Is it just my imagination or does this particular song have a very strong Daft Punk vibe to it?

That's really interesting music. The bottles threw me off. They look like malt liquor but the label is the band name and album. Clever. The lace-gloved hands playing guitar are awesome.
