That's very perceptive. I WAS apparently. And as a child I was always wanting to make people laugh. Usually at my own expense. Still the same really.
Though part of that same was a ferocity in battling for the underdog and it comes from feeling the other emotions quite deeply too. I managed to wrestle control or at least understanding from/of it, in stages over my life.
Such things maybe as having an epiphany at 12 or 13 that humans all have amnesia of the past and are just bumbling along trying to work it out. Which led to me forgiving my parents for not being omniscient, and that they haven't been parents before and make mistakes too. Yep I have had my days as an expert brooder. Analytical minds can be a bit heavy.

    Here's the end section lyrics.

well it's hard to be happy
in a world that's so cruel
where the weak just get weaker
    where the powerful feud
    where the children go hungry
    while the soldiers stand by
    lay down your weapons
    take hold of your lives
    and when will we learn
that it's hate that breeds hate
    only love is the cure
    don't leave it too late
    get up, and feel it
    the truth that won't wait
if we choose to do nothing
then we take all the blame.

Our Sister Kathy has just gone to see these guys live over the weekend.

This particular song dates back to my youth, and it was my first acquaintance with this band. It was the last night of the family's annual summer vacation at the coast, and the DJs of the mobile disco that played there every night were playing this song — the shorter radio edit version.

The band who was on before them were atrocious, hurt my ears, screeching rather than singing, trying to top the music which was very unbalanced.

AWB got us dancing in the aisles.

I think the sax player was the MD. His skinny legs working like the clappers made me laugh.

Happy that you had a good time there...

My brother has been playing this song a lot over the last year, because his new girlfriend is called Valerie, even though she doesn't look anything like the girl in the video below. As the matter of fact, that girl would be more along my taste.

A track from one of the Flying Nun Records stable of artists.

I chose it mainly because the video skips around several places in New Zealand and stops by my mountain for a quick walk in the bush (as we call forests/jungles)
"There is a rainbow and there is life. There is a rainbow, and there is life. Got to make some sense in our life."
No expense spared on the lyrics.

Oh alright then lets have a Flying Nun mini concert. The famous sound of New Zealand music between the 80's and the 90's... and continuing up to the present.

The Able Tasmans were from Auckland and out of Whangarei originally, which made them be teased a bit as all good flying nun sounds were meant to come from Dunedin.

Here's Straight Jacket Fits - they had a few hits, like Down in Splendour which is much more "Commercial" sounding.

    Next up, The Chills.
I'm not sure which one to 'play' or if to go for a few. I wont.
This band is an ongoing creative project, as they call it, by the lead singer. There have been songs released in the last few years, this one is from 1984.

One more for now and we might come back with some more of the bands. There's around 45 of them!

The Clean. Some from other countries, probably the USA.. might have heard these guys, if they are hip and cool enough :-P

    Sing it everyone!

There ain't no man can save me
There ain't no man can enslave me
Ain't no man, no man who can change the shape my soul is in.
    There ain't nobody here
Who can cause me pain or raise my fear
'Cause I got only love to share
If you're lookin' for truth I'm proof you'll find it there.

Wow, I got goosebumps when she started singing. There were a few moments where the guy's voice was too loud in comparison to hers, but they got it back together after the instrumental break, and the ending was definitely chilling again.

It is a beautiful song, by the way, and Oleta Adams would later on also join Tears For Fears, where her voice and piano could be heard on, among other things, this beautiful anthem below...

Oleta Adams. Ahh. What a voice. This Tears for Fears recording was where I heard of her.

    Have faith...
