I would love to believe that you regularly engage in logical thought, Aianawa. Evidence often shows otherwise. Logical isn't exactly your bailiwick.

since we're braggin' on ourselves today... my typical I.Q. test score, used to be a little higher than the average Nobel Prize winner's ... Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk! Trump's brain is mush, sorta like an oozing wound.

Hey Aragorn, I still don't know where you picked up that info about neanderthal DNA. You likely have a good share of it yourself.

If I did, then I would have been rushed to hospital and shoved into the intensive care ward when I had Covid-19. I am one of the lucky people who didn't have to go to hospital but who have contracted potentially life-long consequences and neurological damage from the infection.

As for where I got the info, I don't remember exactly, but I believe it was in the local media over here, in which case it would have been in the Dutch language, and thus unsuitable for reproduction on the forum.

From the New York Times, July 4, 2020

A stretch of DNA linked to Covid-19 was passed down from Neanderthals 60,000 years ago, according to a new study.

Scientists don’t yet know why this particular segment increases the risk of severe illness from the coronavirus. But the new findings, which were posted online on Friday and have not yet been published in a scientific journal, show how some clues to modern health stem from ancient history.

“This interbreeding effect that happened 60,000 years ago is still having an impact today,” said Joshua Akey, a geneticist at Princeton University who was not involved in the new study.

So there you go. Don't marry your sister!

And as far as IQ goes I had the highest marks for my grade in my city, when I was eleven! I was told I had an outstanding IQ by my teachers. But my classmates weren't long out of the trees, I figure, so it's all relative...and it was before my brain liquified and oozed out of my ears and nose like ectoplasm--- the ghost of intelligence past.

I think a chimp has a better memory than I do now. And possibly more refinement and grace too!

One mind-blowing hypothesis — bolstered by a flurry of recent studies — is that a segment of the world’s population may have partial protection thanks to “memory” T cells, the part of our immune system trained to recognize specific invaders. This could originate from cross protection derived from standard childhood vaccinations. Or, as a paper published Tuesday in Science suggested, it could trace back to previous encounters with other coronaviruses, such as those that cause the common cold.

“This might potentially explain why some people seem to fend off the virus and may be less susceptible to becoming severely ill,” National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins remarked in a blog post this past week.

On a population level, such findings, if validated, could be far-reaching
    ."

I can't link because it is subscription only. But here is a bit more so you can do more research if you are interested.

"Hans-Gustaf Ljunggren, a researcher at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, and others have suggested that public immunity to the coronavirus could be significantly higher than what has been suggested by serology studies. In communities in Boston, Barcelona, Wuhan and other major cities, the proportion of people estimated to have antibodies and therefore presumably be immune has mostly been in the single digits. But if others had partial protection from T cells, that would raise a community’s immunity level much higher."

This is theoretical only. There are a few other theories being studied as well. And the long term damage associated with those who recover after exposure as well as some of those who remained asymptomatic, has yet to be fully examined. So, people have to be very aware of what constitutes 'recovery' in the first place.

Octopus, I don’t believe main stream media. Thx for posting though.

I don’t have Neanderthal DNA. I have idiot DNA. There’s a big difference...

    No shortage of opinions here...

    Orbs,

I read some mainstream media, while discounting for what I feel are their inherent biases--in some articles. In other articles I read between the lines. But, as far as Covid goes Washington Post has done a fairly good job of reporting. It's probably not a great idea to put too much stock in those who are looking for fame and notoriety on youtube. A few of them lack a solid background in virology, or like Judy Mikovits, have an axe to grind.

honestly, this seems more like a hypothesis than a theory but the neanderthal thing is interesting. It might be that a particularly immune vulnerable section of the genome has been passed along the line and is outdated. I guess the Coronavirus is taking care of those jackasses. Aragorn, statistically you are likely to have 2%-4% of the neanderthal genome. Given your location, i also would speculate that you lay at the higher end of the European spectrum... you should take a DNA test ...
