    Wish me luck!

Okay then....First of all Good morning!

I'm throwing this out to the universe to wish me luck here.

For the last year I've had a new neighbor who has this beautiful Doberman Pinscher. The problem is when he moved in he stuck this dog house out in his back yard..tied the dog to it and basically feeds and waters the dog and that's it. This poor beautiful dog gets no attention at all! Thus he barks all day and all night long.

We went over to him and requested he do something about it and his response was to get rid of the dog.

Which is fine...he should not have a dog to begin with. These are the kind of dogs (in fact all dogs) that need attention....love...caring. I know this because I used to have one. As it stands I have at the present an English bull dog named Buster. I also have a cat named Sasha who was a stray who wandered in one day.

At this very moment my other half Lionhawk is on his way to procure the dog. In other words I'm about to attempt to adopt a new family member. A most beautiful dog at that! He is strikingly beautiful.

This dog has probably never been in a house...and Dobermans are great house dogs. I know this because as I said I've had one before. Once this dogs gets some much deserved attention and love he's yours for life.

Now with coffee in hand...Lionhawk is on his way over to the neighbor to see if we can have the dog.....so please....wish me luck on this. This dog needs it....because god only knows who he might give this beautiful creature to. His name is Axle.

I hope you're able to rescue this poor dog. All of our furry friends deserve love and caring for, just like we do. Let us know how this turns out.

    Well....the dog is gone.

One of my neighbors said he was thinking of taking him to this lady who wanted him but was nervous about him biting.

The truth is this dog is extremely gentle. Or at least he has been with us.

So I guess I'll have to leave it to the universe and hope he brings back the dog back so we can have it. Otherwise it was not meant to be.

Perhaps this lady he took the dog to is a good home...I'm hoping the universe provides this for this Axle. He deserves a good home.

I'll let you all know if the dog comes back.

The one thing that disturbs me is people in this area tend to leave their dogs outside. I'm one of those crazy ones who think dogs should be inside on a cold night with a loving family.

    Hi Shadowself,
What a great story! And how lucky this dog is to have you care enough to want to adopt him. I have a word of caution that I'd like to share with you which happened to one of my clients a few years back. I own a small pet sitting business and have been in the industry for almost 8 years now. So I work with animals constantly and of course tend to people's homes while they're away. Anytime anyone brings a dog home that's new to the family it's wise to treat the dog with caution for 2months until established patterns and behaviors can be observed. One of my clients, who's worked with dogs most of her life, brought a new dog into her family as she had lost one and wanted a friend to keep her other dog company. One night as she and her husband were going to bed, she reached down to pet the new dog on the head and he went ballistic and started attacking. Her husband had enough sense to get the other dog out of the house and into the back. They could not get the dog to stop attacking either one of them. I'm not kidding when I say it was a blood bath. Thank goodness they had access to a gun, as the husband finally had to shoot the dog. It was a last resort as he had no other choice. The woman just about bled to death and she is very lucky to be alive. I was slated to care for the dogs two weeks from the time this occurred. I have often wondered if I would be alive today had that dog turned on me while I was there alone. They had owned the dog just short of two months, the exact cutoff time they now know to be cautious of, which they didn't know before. The dog they had to destroy was a Doberman and they were no strangers to the breed as they have had several before.

I think this was a fluke incident as this breed doesn't have a reputation for attacking compared to others. Had the owner not been in such critical condition, they told me they would have performed an autopsy on the dog to see if something was wrong with his brain that would make him snap in such a violent way. I asked her if she was wearing any perfume or lotion that might have set the dog off and she said no. They were not familiar with the dogs background as he came from a Doberman Rescue shelter which can often be the case as these animals will be dumped with no history offered and/or the former owner lies or withholds information in regards to the pet.

So I would advise caution for a few months and if you do hire a pet sitter before the two month mark let them know this dog is new to your family. I always ask new clients now how long they've had their pet just for this reason, but many don't think to ask because it's never been a problem and yes it's quite rare. I'm sure you will have no problems, but wanted to share this story so you're aware.

Thanks for that story DF....You have to be very careful bringing a new dog into the home. Particularly one that is not a puppy and had interaction with other people.

I'm very aware caution is warranted. Particularly since he's been neglected. I don't think he's been mistreated in a violent way...just purely neglected.

I once rescued a dog from the pound a German Short Haired Pointer. She was very quite. When I brought her home she snapped at my son. His reaction was I don't want the dog here. Well we had just gotten the dog and he put his face near the dog and I neglected to warn him not to do that.

As it turned out this dog her name was Cocoa....turned out to be one of the best dogs I've ever had. Apparently she was a pure bread and had clear markings of a dog that was trained...to HUNT. I know this because during the fourth of July when all the fireworks would go off so would she. She was terrified by the noise. She apparently did not do well...did not hunt well due to the noise fear factor... so was sent to the pound where I got her.

This dog was highly trained however. She would heal and I seriously never even needed a leash for her in public areas. She would stay right by my side. She was the best dog. Once I showed my son when we first got her to allow her to get used to her surroundings they became best friends. She would sleep at the foot of his bed. She had a good life and finally died of old age. A sad day that was and we still miss her greatly.

    My parents friends adopt greyhounds

Most of the owners of greyhound dogs are race owners and could not care less what happens to them .They are very fragile dogs and need a lot of attention but what Ann and Stewart do with these dogs are amazing. It brings a tear to my eye and like most things all these dogs want are love and attention.

Its great there are still people in the world like yourself shadowself that cares

What a sweet story Shadowself. I can't imagine a world without pets, they are just the best. I was so sad for my client to have this happen as it's not the norm. We can only imagine something wasn't right upstairs and/or her movement did something to set the dog off, we'll never know. I told her I was thinking of buying her a Chia pet as a get well gift...she has a good sense of humor.

Cocoa sounds like the perfect dog, she just needed a little time to adjust. In all honesty these poor animals aren't at fault most of the time, often the circumstances the owners are subjecting them to is what causes the problems. I have had to bite my tongue with a few clients, and if I ever see anything abusive I have no problem saying anything. Thankfully I haven't had to turn anyone in as of yet.

Well hopefully the dog found a good home. So are you guys going to try and adopt another or wait and see if this dog resurfaces? Thank you for being such good pet owners and trying to help another fury friend.

I hadn't planned on adopting another...It's just this one is calling to me for some reason I can't explain. There's something about this particular dog that is calling me. I don't know any other way to put it.

I've not given up on getting him just yet. The lady may not take him. I'm hoping.

Believe me when I say I have my hands full with Buster. I take him everywhere. When we go fishing or camping he has his own chair! We actually take three chairs with us when fishing off the shore! LOL

(I may have to get a fourth chair?)

We also take him camping with us....he's far from neglected....and very spoiled!

If it was meant to be...Axle will have a good home...trust me on this folks.

Well...I have to go to work now. Lionhawk is going to text me if he comes back with the dog. He'll take it from there.

I've done all I can do for now...the rest is up to as I said in the beginning...the universe if it was meant to be. I'll update you all later when I get home.

Thanks for those of you who did in fact put it out there!

(I in FACT know you did...I got a sign!)

    Namaste in the greatest sense!
