Been a really lovely winters day, today, here. I took advantage of being taken shopping for 2 hours, by going to a big garden nursery to browse. I do get a gardening catalogue from a bulb seller from Victoria, but since we can't water enough it hardly seems OK to plant much this this year, but I can mulch and feed what is there and hope for the best. I have a love of bulbs, they are very generous in producing more and more every year, producing lovely clumps in no time, and if looked after, give me great joy with their flowers.

There are 10 units in our small Close, for aged people on their own, who need public housing, that is more or less flat, few steps and the very handy things like handles close to the toilet and in the shower. We each have 4 rooms, all small, kitchen, bathroom, lounge and bedroom, but outside we have a front and back porch, and front and back garden area. As well as this we have quite a large number of gardens considered to be communal, for all of us to use, but since my neighbour and I are the only 2 interested in keeping them looking good. I saved as much as I could from Lithgow, which I am hoping this year might at long last get back to their prime. At the moment, I have someone come once a week to help me for an hour to help me tidy, and water, and soon start spreading, all that mulch etc I bought today.

That was very uplifting and even the moreso because it sounds like you had a beautiful day. Thank you for sharing it.

I am so proud of what our Government are providing for us. OK, not everyone gets the package I am on, because it is for those over 75, on their own, to save us from going into a nursing home, and allows us to look after ourselves.

We choose a provider, from the number available for care for aged care, or disability carers. We are assessed at the beginning for both physical and mental, and are put into eitthe packages 1, 2, 3 or 4. I was assessed for package 3, because of my 3 brain operations, which means that I cannot bend or stretch or lift or carry. Th
e government subsidy provides me with 93.27 dollars per day, or 2,798. 10 dollars per month, none of which I get to see or handle, the provider receives this. We then state to them how we wish this to be used according to the guidelines we ask for. We don't pay for doctors or hospitals because we are on a Government pension, which is roughly 25% of the lowest income, but we also get rental, heating and lighting, transport subsidies (not long ago I got a card worth 250 dollars for seniors transport help over 13 months).

I don't need personal care as yet, but did get showered after my left knee joint operation last year. I get personal assistance with cleaning, and another one in the garden each week, accompanied shopping for 2 hours each week, respite care at the centre for elderly and disadvantaged 5 days a month. I am also taken the hour each way to my GP, they have bought me a life support, Vital care unit, which I wear around my neck, in case I fall, and need emergency care, it has it's own GPS system in it so I can wear it anywhere. This alerts immediately, yo emergency and my neighbour, next door and Edu, that I have fallen. They put a spare door key set up in case I was locked inside and no one could open the door to get to me. I didn't think they would get me a lap top, but they did, so that I could use it on the bed, with a touch screen so I could increase the size of the fonts to see a lot easier. I am waiting for the housing people to give me word for permission to put an air conditioning unit in my Bedroom, which I have enough spare money to pay for, and last but not least, I have a Cabcharge card, which pays for my ataxia. Truly it's so good!!!

That put a lump in my throat, with/for joy.

Counting our blessings while dealing with our challenges. And, Cearna, I can think of know other poster, on this forum, that could show how counting blessings uplifts us, and our life view, while uplifting others when shared, around the community campfire.

You have brought a great gift to the Tent. An honored Elder.

    Thank you, Grandmother.

Thanks so much, Rad, you can't know how much it is appreciated. It has taken more than you can imagine, to decide to run away from home, with nothing, and to start all over again at the age of 78. I felt so lost, alone and afraid, but this is a great rural town, friendly and generous, and my provider has been more than caring, even though it took me two years to wait on a list to finally get this package.

You know my philosophy is that, the children need to learn that which the grandparents learnt on their soul journey, before they can begin to start on their own beliefs of what life is all about.

Over the 3 years that I have been mixing with so many of the elderly I hear more and more cluck, clucking about how it used to be. I started a thread on TOT once back quite some time ago, on what it used to be like, and I've been mixing with heaps of those who were old huge families of never-ending increasing grandchildren, now.

Before, I went on my package, I also went out once a month with the Bathurst Community Transport people for a day jaunt in 3 small buses taking 35 men & women to other towns anything up to a couple of hours each way to have a meal often in a small country pub, where we could just mix and talk - so fantastic for me to meet new people and see the countryside out in this neck of the woods. We often went to old gold mining towns, with hardly anything left, but old museums, the conversations about their memories, was the best thing.

I think our society has lost so much with the family set up being more of can't get away from them fast enough. You know, so much seems to have been lost of the slower, more trusting days,

Thank you for sharing your experience, Cearna. What a gift.

I am readying for a visit from my daughter, who has grown up and flown the nest. She moved to a legal state, and I have been more grateful than I can express that she has access to the medicine she needs. Haven't had to deal with empty nest syndrome, they take turns needing to come home. It is as it should be. The transition from Mother to Crone, I have found, it not a smooth chronologically logical timeline. Also, the faces of the Goddess are not exclusive. I am also working Snake this year, so Transformation abounds. Look at this. Forced inside, and what do we find but mirrors? And the deeper we go, the more we find other reflecting us back to ourselves. In the Tent, we see our own evolution, our own desire for a sacred space, our own compassion holding us together. Haha-as within, so without. I see a theme developing...

    Much Love,
Do not fashion me a maiden who needs saving from the dragons. I am the Dragon. And I will eat you whole.

I am teaching myself a new skill to go along with new ways of me playing live with others and my own music. That new skill is playing a lead guitar solo worthy of listening to.

I do not have leads in any of the originals I perform out, but we get to play 3 songs and two of my own and a well known song is my formula. I have chosen "Two Tickets To Paradise" as one of my 'filler' songs and it has a very melodic solo in it, but it has lots of bends up to other notes in the scale and hitting those notes just right is a skill in itself. I am having a good time with it and am confident it will be ready for prime time before the club is open enough for us to resume open mic night.

Also, teaching myself all of the words to "Cherry Cherry" by Neil Diamond.

BTW, the Two Tickets song is in this thread a few pages back.

    Here's "Cherry Cherry".
