Here is a chart depicting the vowels organised by two main principles: backness and openness. The terms are pretty self-explanatory: open vowels are produced with the mouth open and close vowels with a smaller gap between the tongue and palate. Back vowels are pronounced closer to the throat and front vowels closer to the lips.
So, here's the chart. Each dot represents the sound used for each chakra and their placement gives their relationship to other sounds:
The first/root chakra is pronounced like ago, but longer — somewhat as in nurse, but without the r in those accents which pronounce it. This page has an example. There is an example of the "nurse" form here, indicated just below and to the left of the red dot (the 3 symbol) if that's easier.
The second/sacral chakra is pronounced as in French vous. It is not pronounced much like English Us as in much, good or food, because these sounds are closer to A (much), I (good) and in the last case, it's pronounced with less rounding as ɯː, ɯu, ɯw, əɯ, or even iɯ. It can even be too far forward, as ʉ. The best way to try to pronounce this sound for an English speaker is to try to pronounce U and W together, with your lips noticeably rounded. In any case, this page has an example.
The third/solar plexus chakra is pronounced with a low O sound. It is not pronounced like the long O in hope, or even like the somewhat lower O in horn, but like the O in conservative RP hot. In most accents, this sound is pronounced identically now with a shorter version of the O in horn (without the -r, if American), or even as an A in American, but it should be lower in the mouth. For those Americans who would pronounce the O as in "hot" with an A, try to keep your lips rounded and tight while saying it and you might get close. This page has an audio example.
The fourth/heart chakra is pronounced like the U in much but clearer (with a more open mouth), like the first half of the Y in the RP pronunciation of the word sky — just don't say the I sound, cutting it off as skaaaaaa. It's actually somewhat closer to the centre than I have shown it here (I wanted it to be closer to the plain a symbol for easy reference). The sound is better represented as ä (not the same as the German letter Ää, which is an e sound) and an example of the sound can be found here.
The fifth/throat chakra is pronounced between the two French Es (fait, /ɛ/ and fée, /e/) , like an Israeli Hebrew E (nehoshet). English speakers may find this one quite hard, because we don't even have the second of the two Es found in French. The closest we have is the diphthong in words like day (/ɛɪ/ or /eɪ/). If you pronounce an E sound as found in led, and then progress that sound to the sound in laid, that is the closest you might come. It is equally between the two French Es, and because of that is called either a "raised ɛ" or a "lowered e". You can find an example of the accurate and specific sound here.
The sixth/third eye chakra is pronounced as in English keen. This one, at least, is pretty simple. If you need an example, you can find it here.
The sound this person intoned for the crown chakra was silence, which may present logical or philosophical complications, but is at least in harmony with much of the tradition surrounding that chakra. We might consider that we are "intoning silence" every time we stop speaking, but from the point of view of the occult, and the Western Mystery Tradition, intoning consists of more than just making a noise but is rather the projection and vibration of energy with sound as an accompaniment. In the LBRP, for example, the words "Atah malkuth v'gvurah v'gdolah l'olam amen/l'olam va'ed" (I prefer "ani malkuth..." lol) and the "god names" are not just spoken, they're vibrated and in vibration the energy of the word is felt resounding throughout one's entire being and the world. It is eminently possible to vibrate in that way without speaking a single word because it is the spiritual faculty and not the vocal faculty that matters and, staying within the praxis of the WMT, it is not uncommon for the "sign of silence" to have a similar vibration. Indeed, the sign of silence without any form of higher work is an empty posture. From this point of view, it is not impossible to intone silence, it is only that the vibrated energy has no physical counterpart which, considering this is the crown chakra, seems rather apt.

Excellent. Thank you. This is a wonderful addition to the Tent, as usual, from you.

Thanks eaglespirit, one of my all time favorites. My favorite verse, which is very pertinent at this time:
And the people bowed and prayed,
to the Neon God they made
And the sign flashed its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence
I realize this isn't the Silence SK and others are referring to above. I well know the importance of silencing the mind to connect to one's HS and intuitive abilities.
But then, as the song above states, the other silence, the silence of not speaking one's Truth is like a cancer grows.
Perhaps this post would belong better in the Sophia Correction thread. As I believe that in order to correct we must now speak our truth, stop turning our heads to the injustices that we see (usually because we feel as if we can't do anything about them) and that has been programmed into us both by words and actions (meaning how police treated OWS participants)

Hi BabaRa, Love to You and Yours...glad You posted about the song, I simply put it here because of the "title" and it is one of my favorites too. It was meant to honor what PurpleLama and All are bringing forth...the "real" Silence that can change Our Lives! This personal potent process can empower and connect the higher truth to our spiritual rhythm and we can affect and effect the turnaround of the malady You speak of.
I just discovered aporee dot org. It's a google earth based idea that pins sounds to specific locations.
I've uploaded a recording I made this evening down by the Wear river. You can click and go straight to it:
http://aporee.org/maps/work/?loc=22840
( headphones are best, it's bin-aural )
EDIT:
They've deleted it. It's gone !........ only reason I can think of is that I didn't record it in 24bit resolution.
