    He was an American author and journalist who left for Mexico to join the troops of Pancho Villa, and who has since then never been heard of anymore. Nobody knows what happened to him.

    Like Mark Twain, he was known for his cynical style. You can find his "The Devil's Dictionary" online, if you look. It is an actual dictionary, but with every word having a cynically humorous description.
