Instability at home is a big reason why so many keep fleeing up from the south. A lot of them are more running from something, than to something. And guess who causes most of that instability?

Much the same is true of Western European "immigration".

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”

I'm also convinced a certain percentage of these human waves of humanity fleeing from unacceptable instability at home can be, and sometimes are, used as weapons. Just as the survivors in zombie flicks like "The Walking Dead" eventually learned to weaponize hordes of zombies to their advantage in certain instances.

Bottom line though Denise is that pointing our frustrations at the hordes is misplaced. I think Trump is the kind of guy who's savvy enough to know some of these basics, but slogans like "Build That Wall" are just too delicious to pass up in attracting people who are upset at a very real problem.

We need to stop fucking with other peoples' countries, give them a chance to breath, and watch how many start staying home and rebuilding their lives where they really want to be anyway.
The unexamined life is not worth living.

    AGREED...

There are so many ways to look at every issue... Those with the most power, and reach, will want the entire planet under the same controls, as it makes it easier to manipulate the whole...It is when those other areas are just experiencing the corruption and such for the first time that they need to really fight it off... But sadly most are ill prepared to do so... What many do not understand is that they're running to what they're trying to leave.. Just a little further in it's evolution...

There is some truth to that. I was talking with an arrogant immigrant bartender at my niece's wedding to her 1%'er husband and family and I asked him (he really thought he was special) why he chose to come to the United States. His snippy answer was, "Why does anyone come to the U.S." (I suspect he was hiding something). Anyway, my first thought was...I ask my self that same question every day!

There's a significant difference between, on the one hand, people from South America who embark on long and harrowing journeys to reach the borders of the United States, thinking they will be safe there, or that they'll have a better chance at survival for themselves and their families — or otherwise put, these people are political and/or economical refugees, or maybe they're just on the run from the ruthless drug cartels that terrorize the area where they used to live — and on the other hand, immigrants from Europe or the Middle East who come to the USA because it's the place to be for aspiring one-percenters.

America was not built on democracy, but on Darwinian principles. It's still the Wild Wild West, even though the gunslingers in the dusty streets have made way for corporate lawyers, patent trolls and monopolists.

    Weirdly.....

After so many people fleeing Michigan because of the 'Democracy' : the bad roads, the punishing governor, and the heart attack inducing taxes and the other income draining symptoms of 'democracy', now the reverse is happening. People are flooding into Michigan. Usual normal people not immigrants to take advantage of a life lived in a welfare state. Apparently because of the water. There's water in Michigan, where apparently its lacking elsewhere down south? I've never heard of people picking up and leaving in the US in modern times because there was no water, so I wonder what gives with that.

    Stranger days.

Well, one thing to consider is global climate change. I had a geology professor 35 years ago that was warning us that one of the major water sources for the southwest was going to run out of water before long (before long to a geologist). I do believe he was a liberal, he remarked that I was exceptionally intelligent. Whether that comment was true or not is neither he nor there I had a good memory back in the day.

Have any opinions on the huge wave of Irish immigrants that left Ireland during their civil war. It was when Irish immigrants comprised more than 10% of the American demographic. Something that Pat Buchanan, Lou Dobbs, and O'Really have conspicuously forgotten.
    They loved the corruption here.

    Irish Nachos

Sounds really good, plenty of potatoes, Irish love potatoes and that was one of the primary motivations for many Irish folks to leave Ireland due to the lack of them in their home country:

    Directions
    1. Preheat the oven to 425°.

2 Wash the potatoes and pat dry thoroughly. Slice the potatoes into 1/4-inch-thick rounds. Stir together the potatoes, olive oil, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl until well combined.

3 Spray two rimmed baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray. Divide the potatoes equally between the pans and arrange them in an even layer. Bake for 20 minutes then remove the pans from the oven. Flip the potatoes, rotate the pans, and return to the oven. Bake until the potatoes are golden brown, about 10 to 15 minutes more.

4 Remove the potatoes from the oven and sprinkle evenly with the salt. Let cool 5 minutes. Combine the potatoes on one pan and sprinkle with the bacon and shredded cheese. Return the pan to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes more. Sprinkle with the quick-pickled onions and green onions; top with salsa and sour cream.

5 To make the quick-pickled onions (optional): Combine the onion, vinegar, 1/2 cup water, sugar, and salt in a small microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes.

Tip: The quick-pickled onions can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Try them on tacos with roast beef or in salads. (I love pickled onions and garlic, too. Pickled garlic isn't so Irish but Italians and Mexicans have a hankerin' for 'em)

A little context from a Cultural Warrior: I heard something really interesting today. It turns out that what a mother eats during a pregnancy influences a child's lifelong eating likes and dislikes. I now feel justified in blaming my biological Irish-German mother for my obsession with potato chips. In truth, my older brother always teased me because he claimed I was eating potato chips when driving back home from the adoption agency. I was no more than an infant. I always liked sauerkraut too...never understood why really but I was pretty much the only one in my family that would eat it.

It's hogwash. My mother liked eating things that I was (and still am) revolted by.

They used to be safer here. Since our immigration laws have become so lax they are not safe at all. They are the easiest people to meet some mishap and just as easily disappear and never be missed. Since we can no longer interview the incoming their enemies whomever caused them to flee in the first place can follow them right in. Musn't discriminate.

Wealthy Syrians find opportunity in our lax laws and suck up funds meant for those Syrians seeking refugee or asylum. The suffragettes ignore that because as much as they squeal about it they don't like diversity and they want to cater to the elite. The New Age BS trickled into policies that used to work and now they don't. See, everyone coming over the border is full of love and holiness merely because they are in debt, poor, and homeless. And the suffragette faction of the US will fight to the death to keep these lax and dangerous policies in place because they are 'nice'. Full of love and light.

I concur. Compared to the westernized world we are still very much like the Wild West here.

It's generally accepted that anyone and everything outside the US is good and holy. All makes it very puzzling why so many people want to come here. Why not go elsewhere where everyone is good and perfect?

Nothing is real, it is all perception and human perception for the most part really sucks. Pigeons are better.
