I'm not sure whether that qualifies as an answer to my question, but okay, I'll let you off the hook. But then again, the Sidinugget might put you back on there.

Gee, I don't know, Sidinugget. It's Vern we're dealing with here. Who knows what kind of weird critters that would yield?

They've tried it before, though. A number of years ago, the granddaughter of Benito Mussolini also ran for office for one of Italy's fascist parties — I think it was the AN but I'd have to look it up — but she then lost the elections to (I believe) Berlusconi (who wasn't all that much better).

That all said, I am definitely not opposed to having a woman as prime minister or president — or at least, not if it's the right woman. It would certainly temper the testosterone-driven political scene somewhat.

We've had a female federal prime minister here in Belgium for a short while, after the former federal prime minister — Charles Michel — left his elected position in order to become the next President of the European Commission, just as Herman Van Rompuy had done before him. So then Michel's position as federal prime minister went to his fellow MR party member and vice-prime-minister Sophie Wilmès, who was left to deal with the pandemic and with the politicians of the next election round's inability to get a new government together for over a whole year.

Even though Sophie Wilmès is a neo-liberal, I think she did a great job of keeping the ship afloat amidst the multiple crises this country was going through. Likewise, in the UK, Theresa May did her very best at keeping things together amidst the whole Brexit crisis, even though she was unable to secure a best-for-all exit strategy. Her successor Boris Johnson was not as circumspect and went for the bleeding-wound approach to Britain's amputation from the EU.

Of course, the kinds of women you do not want in a leadership role are the likes of Georgia Meloni, Hillary Clinton or Margaret Thatcher, who all have — or in Thatcher's case, had — a fairly large dose of testosterone pumping through their veins. Not quite representative of what you might call "the Divine Feminine".

Still wondering if the NY Times article was calling Tolkien fans crypto-fascists.

Is/Was Tolkien the Grand Wizard of some Middle-Earth KKK?
