There's a good ground view picture at the site below that shows very clearly why the remains of the structure had to come down, even though they were still standing, they had been forced all out of alignment by the blast and were a big time hazard. https://www.wrdw.com/2022/07/06/live...a-guidestones/
I'm glad to have taken the time to go there in person several years ago, although the message of maintaining the world's population at 500,000,000 was indeed a bit disconcerting, it was still quite the marvel of engineering to behold, and I'm sad that someone or some people saw fit to destroy such a work.
Some will see this as a heroic act, I do not. I see it as a senseless act.

I bet Project Avalon will be partying right now...
Someone got the motivation to send a signal to ''them''
Ah, them. The guidestones were shrouded in mystery, and people tend to fill in their own blanks with few clues, and limited information. For all we know they weren't put up by "them" at all, and in the end all someone did was just blow up something because they don't understand it, but assumed they did.
I hope we don't start blowing things up that we either don't understand, or disagree with. Surely there's better ways to deal with things of that nature.
