Actually, the cat had a choice, be calm or die. It made the correct choice.

I grew up within a half block of railroad tracks. I watched, saw, and learned early ... you don't f*ck with trains.

Whoa, sorry I missed that, a good one!

I've seen that one in my perusings, people do so crazy stuff base jumping, sometimes the journey in getting to the jump spot, must be every bit as harrowing as the jump itself. This must surely have been one of those!

And only 50 meters (164 feet), phew...

To put that in comparison. First off, base jumpers don't even wear a reserve chute, there's no need for a second chance at life the time is so short. Second, in regular civilian skydiving, it's basically codified law that even well experienced jumpers throw out their main chute by 2,000 feet (610 meters), that usually gives plenty of time to deal with any given emergency, and dump the main in order to deploy the reserve if need be.

This is about the lowest I've seen, and lord knows how he climbed that damn chimney, same as the Ferris wheel:

Then there's that whole other realm of base jumping, which really should be in a category all unto itself, they're not even just freefalling any more, they're flying like Super Man.

This one combines the best of both worlds, flying like Super Man, and a "dirty low pull". The difference in this case though, is that a wingsuit jumper is falling at probably darn near a 45 degree angle, as opposed to straight down. But that's still cutting in close by anyone's score card...

Bears are known for taking some serious hits. Hunting them is dangerous unless you have enough guns that even a bear couldn't take it.

Damn that was close, for both of them no doubt! I'll bet he won't be wander out in the yard like that if he needs to scare them again...

I did something similar to that. A big pack of yiping coyotes got a little too close for comfort one night, I lit them up with the spotlight to see just how close, and by the glow of their eyes they were already on our property maybe 150 feet out, and still coming. That way too close especially with three dogs, so I did the same thing grabbed my shotgun, and fired one off in the air, only difference was I kept my happy ass on the front porch while doing it.

It worked too! They ran for the hills and we never had any trouble with them after that. I don't mind them and they don't mind me, just keep your distance and we'll all get along just fine.

The whale was aiming for the plankton, which is their normal diet — they're not even capable of actually swallowing anything with a cross section bigger than a herring. There was obviously a lot of plankton in that spot, given how eager the gulls were pecking at the surface of the water.

Whales normally go out of their way to not harm (and even to protect) humans. Maybe this one's eyesight wasn't too good anymore.
