    Anonymous

This hacking group has been in and out of the news but is still going. It looks like they've been engaging in cyber attacks on Russia. And helping to out the criminals in the Trump world.

The Taiwan News and other sites are reporting that Anonymous hacked a Chinese site (ChineseCulture.com.cn/) and inserted a page detailing its compromise of a Russian device as a “warning shot.”

A purported spokesman for the group later contacted the Taiwan News and confirmed the location of the compromised device and appeared to present a revised, post-invasion Anonymous policy toward the Putin regime.

The spokesperson said they were previously "playing nice and not give them an excuse to start a war," but now that missiles had been fired on Kyiv and elsewhere, "we are taking off the gloves altogether."

The hacktivist stated, "Anonymous will formally attack Russian websites or devices later" in retaliation for Russia's invasion of Ukraine
This diary asks the question, is Anonymous on our side?

From the comments section (a new activity for me) an open source intelligence person said,

Inside-track information here: Anonymous core is 100% on-side, with us, and dedicated to taking down Trumpist infrastructure wherever and whenever they can.

Much of the world is already decided by one man: Mark Zuckerberg, king of a global virtual empire with two billion subjects, more than any country on Earth. The Face Borg has contributed mightily to the installation of Trump in 2016, and to ongoing Trumpist violence, and to stochastic terrorism on a global scale including genocides. That’s evil, full stop.

And much of the world is already decided by another one man: Putin.

And much of the US has been already decided by another one man: Trump.

So like it or not, we’re already in...a dystopia from hell, dominated by three evil men.

What are you doing to help stop them?

    Here’s a word of advice:

Don’t turn away allies who can help us win on multiple fronts.

    And here’s another:

If you don’t want the world decided by handfuls of people, some of whom are evil monsters, get fully engaged in activism and help make history.

There are no sidelines in this game.
This person uses the coyote as a metaphor for what Anonymous does.

    There’s hackers and there's hackers.

Some hackers are generic predators like hyenas: that eat anything they can get, the more the better. These we really do not like, and we encourage you to really not-like them as well. The social ecosystem would be better off if they were safely confined to zoos, and we do our fair share to help catch them and put them in zoos.

Other hackers are like coyotes: on one hand, animals with a constructive role in the ecosystem, and on the other hand, an archetype in human culture (Coyote = The Trickster). They do have to eat, but they aren’t out to eat you. These we regard as friends or at least as ‘friendlies’ in the same manner as owls and crows (smarts / wisdom) and squirrels (playful purposiveness).

That said, one doesn’t pet wild animals. Certain Anons have cited stochastic terrorism (I’m the original author of that), and I’ve wanted to reach out to them to chat. But my org has standing orders against having any direct contact with people who ‘might get into trouble.’ I can watch the coyotes through binoculars, as it were, but I can't sit down with them at the camp fire.

That said, some of the coyotes are truly magnificent, and they do help prevent infestations of dangerous rodents that spread diseases. So if you know how to spot their tracks, and you see those tracks around the dumpster, and you hear that an infestation has been mysteriously diminished, you can be pretty sure that a friendly coyote was in the neighborhood.
    Regarding Tuckums,

Trump kompromat is difficult for all the reasons we all know. Tuckyo Rose on the other hand, is a slob. One of these days, the unwashed dishes he left in his sink are going to gang up and embarrass him mightily.
    What is Anonymous connected to?

Look up every hack and data dump against a Trumpist org, look for the similarities and differences, and note the patterns. Over time you’ll get a sense of who’s doing what. You might not ever be able to map the Whos to ‘names,’ but you might notice things that suggest that certain Whos down in Whoville are particularly adept at taking Christmas back from the Grinches.

There are a lot of Grinches around, but there are a lot more Whos. And the Whos are smarter:-)
Almost every serious hit on Trumpist cyber infrastructure, with more to come.

Nearly every major data dump on a Trumpist org, from Parler to the fund-raise for the Flu Trux Klan. This is not idle speculation: you can spot it if you know where to look and how to read the subcultural dialects.
    As regards Russia,

Afghanistan was a limited geographic area. Cyber is as limitless as the reaches of human minds.

Russia is going to get clobbered in cyber.

Wearing down the Russian economy in random subtle ways will tend to get Russians pissed-off at Putin: they’ll blame him for neglecting his responsibilities at home. This is already starting to happen.
Why aren't they in the news?

In point of fact, Anonymous core members do about four or five times as much ‘stuff’ that nobody ever claims credit for, as the ‘stuff’ they do that they claim credit for in public.

Sometimes discretion is the better part of valour after all.
As far as US government hacking goes,

That would be General Paul Nakasone, Director of NSA and Commander of US Cybercommand (CYBERCOM).

He was appointed by Trump but he is a warrior’s warrior and a complete straight-arrow who we’all can trust 100%. When Trump tried to stick him with a ‘burrower’ as Chief Counsel for NSA in January 2021, he told Trump to go get stuffed.

He is world-class brilliant, and Biden needs to keep him onboard.

He’s the kind of guy who can read a ten-page report and condense the most important points down to a two-sentence summary that’s actually correct. He has the serious deep respect of everyone in two agencies that were at first suspicious of each other but now work together smoothly.

He presided over the cyber takedown of ISIS.

And now we’re going to see what he does to Putin.
I've only seen Anonymous pop up here and there. They weren't particularly on my radar. I'm becoming more and more interested in OSINT, Open Source Intelligence. And I'm working on a separate thread for that.

The first time I ever heard of Anonymous was back in the mid to late 90's, when they started openly protesting the Church of Scientology's worldwide spiritual headquarters in downtown Clearwater, Florida. At the time we lived only a few minutes away, so it was very easy to drive on over there to hang out with them, and join in the protest. So far as I know that's where the mask thing originated, because back then the "church" hadn't yet been tamed down the way they are now, and they would literally hire private detectives to photograph people's faces, and track them down for harassment.

Som yeah the internet was still barely a thing then, they hadn't yet taken to the behind the scenes hacking role yet, it was all just protesting with their masks on in person. They were a pretty cool bunch, only maybe 50 or so, but were young, really dedicated to the cause, and not a bit afraid of well known Scientology tactics. In the beginning the "church" would send some minions out to challenge them, but that was when people were catching on to the fact that sidewalks are public, there's freedom of assembly and speech on public sidewalks, and they had police escort to not allow any physical blockages of those downtown sidewalks, and thus the protests could not be stopped.

Soon enough "church" orders started coming down for everyone to clear the streets during a protest. Scientologists pretty much run downtown Clearwater, there's always minions hustling and bustling about going to various church type activities, busses ferrying them to and fro, but when Anonymous came to town all that activity came to a standstill, I mean they would shut that shit down cold, to where you'd swear it's about time to see a tumbleweed come rolling on down the main street.

It was really something to see, talk about speaking truth to power! And just for the extra twist if that penetrating knife, the annual protest would always be on Hubbard's birthday, and the openly mocking sounds of "Happy Birthday Ron Hubbard" were heard continuously up, down, and around all those wide open city streets. You can bet your bottom dollar that singing was easily heard by those barricaded inside of those buildings, and it must have driven them nucking futs.

Now days there's no need for protests, the point has been made, the "church" is well aware of the laws that it must abide by, and there are even tours you can sign up for that are run by high level ex Scientologists that will take you building by building down those same sidewalks, and explain exactly what's going on behind closed doors in each of them. They should know they used to work there, no more secrets either! So a big high five to the original Anonymous, they proved to be a game changer in my own home town. Church goons can no longer just routinely intimidate people into submission like they used to be able to do.

But now to present day. I'm disappointed to see that the new Anonymous has taken a big step backwards in their sophistication. If they're only big concern now so far as the US government is concerned is rooting out Trump corruption, then they're truly missing the motherlode of corruption that's always deeply anchored in, regardless of who's sitting in the big chair.
The unexamined life is not worth living.

The Trump stuff has to do with illegal things like overturning elections and more. It's not about his lies about being a billionaire or his money laundering. Although I'm sure they'd be happy to expose that.

Anonymous fought the authoritarian activities of Scientology. And now their focus is currently on authoritarians around the world (which does not exclude the US).

Thursday evening, the Anonymous collective declared a cyberwar against Russia as Putin's forces closed in on the Ukrainian capital. And it looks like they were serious.

On Friday evening, Anonymous claimed they managed to breach the database belonging to the Russian Ministry of Defence. The group's actions appear to be part of a growing trend that is seeing a growing number of cyber soldiers take to the newest front in the war against Russia.

Anonymous posted the database online and made it accessible to anyone. "Hackers all around the world: target Russia in the name of #Anonymous let them know we do not forgive, we do not forget. Anonymous owns fascists, always," the group tweeted.

Anonymous went to Ohio to help a rape victim.

The sleepy rustbelt town of Steubenville, Ohio, was once best known for high school sports and as the birthplace of Dean Martin. But when a teen sexual assault committed by two members of the football team surfaced, the shadowy hacker group Anonymous caught wind of the story and decided to intervene. After publishing videos and social media from the night of the assault to their millions of online followers, they sparked viral outrage and demands for #JusticeforJaneDoe. They unleashed a passionate mob and their actions divided the small town, but in the process gave strength to generations of women forced to hide abuse. This film asks, when it seems like nothing will change, when is it OK for outsiders to intervene?
I'll link to the video rather than posting it here.

    Hi DT,

I've got to tell you this might be a pro presentation in terms of pro and con but this channel tends to the sensationalism hook. Some of their stuff is obviously not reliable.

Thanks, Chuckie. I did peruse their channel. I haven't checked out the ancient Egyptian box yet. It seems like the narrator here is pretty much just regurgitating Anonymous' messages in the video. It's more interesting than text.

Anonymous don't like authoritarians or such behavior. They didn't care about Trump until his authoritarian behavior. They didn't care about undermining Russia or Putin until his authoritarian aggression.

They're smart enough to not fall of the propaganda of supposedly freeing the nation from the grip of Nazis. Neither the Russian people nor the Ukrainian people wanted this.

But Anonymous focuses on authoritarian action. And Putin just got their attention, Bigly.

Gullyballs. Sounds like a fun game. I'll make up my own rules, like with Calvin-Ball.

I haven't said a wit about what I believe. This kind of knee-jerk assessment of a persons feelings or beliefs is why certain threads get locked or put into the hoax section. Because so many people assume that it reflects the feelings or beliefs of a mod or the forum rather than just a consideration of an idea. We've said that here already.

You demonstrate that regularly, Aianawa. And if you can know us for so long and still jump to crazy conclusions about what we feel or believe, what will others in this community who do not know us do? Sometimes actions have to be taken to make it clear.

If grownups would stop jumping to personal conclusions it would be much easier to have discussions about difficult subjects. (Of course, I understand the tactic. You make it about the person, distract from substantive conversation about the subject at hand, and muddy the waters).

I can write about what Anonymous claims and what it does that can be seen. I have not done any in-depth papers on Anonymous so I would not venture to give my own assessment of their success. I don't know. And I'm certainly not the only one watching them and their actions. They're hackers. One keeps an eye on hackers.

OSINT (open source intelligence), government intelligence, and the cyber community all keep an eye on these activities.
