This is true.
While "Gracy" certainly got what she deserved in being booted on down the road, with leader's insistence, that process did indeed wind up drawing to the surface an underlying rot just looking for a reason. With the long awaited frog marches off to Gitmo still an unfulfilled hunger, this would do.
But as every coin has two sides, so does this cautionary tale of "as above so below" human nature. There were also the ones more prone to reason and level headedness, and when they saw tar and feathers being traded in for the hangman's rope, they stood and said "Enough!"
Both sides of this exercise demonstrated who they really are. Perhaps this was "Gracy's" higher purpose all along.
