I've observed the pattern of Alex being calm versus overwrought.
When he's calm, he's under the gun, as with the custody case, and now with the Sandy Hook case.
He lost and has been found liable. Turns out it's really not OK to spread the kind of lies which injure families and cause children to be harassed.
When Alex is worked up and angry and raging, he's got some money to make and some supplements/survival goods to sell.
It's a clear pattern.
