This is my favorite one. "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love" by Charles Mingus.

yeah, etta james is/was awesome. I was living in North Carolina Triangle Area - Raleigh. And it ran THE best music store I ever encountered. I scored some classic stuff there. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon I believe it was - A 25th Anniversary edition ... very cool. Some original Fleetwood Mac (Hypnotized) - A blues guitarist that had a reputation as one of the fastest guitarists alive ... I thought he played a steel guitar as it had a different sound to it. I can't remember his name and apparently he wasn't as good as his moniker because I can't find him on any lists and then Etta James, of course. At first I thought she was a male singer but she can do her thing, fo' sho'.

She can do some serious get down as well ...

Johnny Winter perhaps? He played very fast and he used a slide a lot, but with fretted notes behind the slide. He was mainly known for playing a Gibson Firebird V and for playing a Dobro ─ i.e. a resonator acoustic guitar, which is commonly played with a copper slide and which has a brooding, swampy blues sound to it.

I remember Johnny Winter ... this guy was an older black dude at the time, he was always a black dude but it was around 1990. I hadn't heard this guitarist before ...

Muddy Waters? He used a slide a lot too, and he was African-American. But then the year wouldn't be right, because he passed away in 1983, even though some of his songs were re-released and became radio hits again long after his death.
