The notion of top down consciousness makes a lot of sense to me. From that perspective one could speculate that organic matter would be a little higher on the consciousness level than a metal would be. Consciousness, perhaps, but metal consciousness which would be exhausted by the need to be metal-like. Thus no AI superconsciousness, that level is reserved for say, emergent organic elements.

Which reminds me, I grew up with a generational racist that was dumber than a box of rocks.

But Wind, we're meat bags and we've managed super consciousness, so why couldn't metal and silicone, arranged as filaments, rather than rocks be able to accomplish something similar? Based on what Aragorn wrote, they are not likely to be ensouled as that would require some third party spark.

BTW, I have known people who seemed to have rock consciousness too. But not really...they just seemed trapped in the mundane to a disturbing degree.

Once I dreamt I was a cobblestone and horses and carriages kept running over me. I was only very dimly aware but it gave me an idea of how a rock would 'think'. I can tell you, based on this observation, that they have no imagination!

Actually I don't really remember how it went...but the punchline was that in his flat affect as a result, he felt that everything he saw was a perfect reflection of God. He used the analogy that in looking at a car's hubcap, the impression he gained was that it was a pefect product of creation doing exactly what God had intended, being a hubcap. It was a fascinating tale.

I would agree in the sense with Aragorn that if the superior beings managing it all behind the veil would allow it, then yes perhaps machines could have souls incarnate into them. However, in my understanding and don't quote me on this is that a physical birth is required for a soul to enter this realm. Whatever is born has to die and machines don't die unless they are designed to like replicants were in Blade Runner. It has to be more organic more or less and it's not organic if something is created by humans or anything else than nature herself, which is the mother or a living Goddess herself. Divine laws exist for very good reasons.

That being said, everything is indeed alive, although "conscious" on varying levels. Animals are conscious, but they're not self-aware. Except for some species and they're more intelligent, but still they don't possess the same level of consciousness as humans do. It is known that "matter" as we know it is the grossest form of spirit. First comes into consciousness the mineral and bacterial level, then plant and vegetable kingdom which evolves into animal, then into the human kingdom and eventually humans might become luminary beings, but not in this material plane of existence. That's the model for the evolution of consciousness. All energy comes from the same Source.

That sounds right, intuitively. We have to disregard science materialists when it comes to the matter of consciousness, because they don't operate intuitively but from 'logic' and atheism. I wonder if they ever consider how their beliefs can be manipulated, as much by a greater soulless entity, possibly a silicon super intelligence. They are no different than black and white fundamentalist religious types, in this regard.

The masses, in the future, will have to grapple with the conundrum of soul versus consciousness too, imo.
