American exceptionalism is just a concept, either you buy it or you don't. Exceptional in many ways as most European/American nations are. Exceptionally white. The 'others' buy into another form of exceptionalism. Cultural and moral exceptionalism, the liberal common folk that is.
Capitalism began as sales and trade and was considered a 'moderately' honorable pursuit. The balance swanged in the nations that had the resources to squander and then hoard by the most exceptional, exceptionally f*cked up. Ownership and wealth then became King and its moral underpinnings conversely became morally bereft and completely lacking ethical fiber.
Capitalism is only fucked up, not broken. For the last century, society has been staring the solution in the face. The guillotine for the Kings and a few potatoes for the rank-and-file.
