I believe this is the sequence Abby was referring to, and whoa, what a dressing down it was! Usually people doing this are scuttled off in short order, but in this case, he was allowed to go on to the point where I was wondering if he was just going to run out of things to say. Incredibly, he never did.

"The Gray Zone" journalist Max Blumenthal joins Jimmy Dore to give some back story into what was going on there after they watch the clip to open. The U.S.'s "back yard" often gets ignored, I'm always glad their are good journalists around keeping track for those of us who maybe care just a little. This is good stuff: (14 min.)

Irrelevant, making noise and complaining does nothing to advance the truth from those accused. It just bears complaint and the reality that international relationships are highly complex and sacrifices to the ideal must be made. The wider the gap between good and evil will require more movement to the middle to the point it just looks wrong yet it is the necessity of good to bend to the bad. It is why evil exists as it is, a wanton destructiveness on all, not just those that indulge in the practices. The good will not let evil overpower the innocent without ameliorating the destruction. And that is the weakness of higher values and the power of the lower. Cosmic justice ensures that the ideal is attained only with great effort and the accompanying pain.

It is the harsh reality and we can bitch all we want. It's like pissing into the wind.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

True enough, Fred, and fair enough. That is exactly the point I guess.

This is an oldie but goodie from Abby, in 2017. Even though I spent a few days in Israel back in the 90's, I knew very little about how the world really works, and would never have noticed what she highlights here. Even if I had, I would have had little disagreement with them at the time. I can relate to the human rights activist Ronnie Barkan that she introduces around the 7:30 mark, who describes how he was eventually able to overcome his indoctrination which began as a small child, and then things look very clear once you are able to stand back and look at it for what it really is.

It's a strange thing to behold.

Even so, I've still always looked at Israel through the lens of their overall politics, their position in the world, and their prominence in the Bible, but never from "the man on the street" perspective that she presents. It was actually shocking to me how utterly hard right wing, racist and apartheid like they come across, and especially so that there was a time I might have interviewed quite similar to them.

This demonstrates how effective indoctrination from childhood is. It's interesting when you've been there deeply under its influence, and then slowly but surely start leaving it behind like a snake sheds its skin, I've looked at the issues from both points of view, and it helps me be more patient when seeing others still under the spell.

Abby does a remarkable job at keeping to journalistic neutrality:

So I see this one hasn't been posted here either. Nothing is more educational than actually going to the place of interest, and here's Abby on the other side of that that big wall in the Palestinian refugee camps, back in 2016.

    Well worth the 30 minutes:
