Folks may very well unglom when it comes to the US. Like us or not we were a certain kind of dependable. Then that wasn't the case. It'll take a while to either regain trust/respect or for order to realign in the world.

Now wait a minute here, I thought glomming was a bad thing?

It is what it is. I never qualified good or bad.

If I see someone glom onto a movement where the thrust is, for example, feeding and educating homeless people I'd think it was great. In fact, any movement which values education at this point would be one I'd glom onto in a heartbeat. But not without thinking. I don't follow. So I have to see the goal being respected and worked towards. And then I'll work with folks.

It's easy living life where you don't have to worry, really, about the influence of other nations and their policies because it's your country who's at the head of the pack. But when that isn't the case, it's not so easy. And we here don't know what that's like. We don't know what it's like to lose respect around the globe.

And we may well find out. We can't just dominate. We used to lead. Now, we're much more unstable.

I am a little surprised at how vulnerable we were/are to the ravages of social media and misinformation. But that's what happens when education isn't valued. Our children are not the thrust of our nation's care or effort and neither are our teachers.

And yet they're our future. We claim to value babies while we don't care for the children. Or even the mothers. Our infant mortality is atrocious compared to what it should be considering our resources and knowledge.

And people don't want to help because someone might use drugs. Pointing at the lowest common denominator is nothing but a loser's perspective. Why even try?

It's the priorities that are askew.

    Beau is nice and concise.

As always, the folks who throw stones are doing what they accuse.

An ex-President has dangled pardons for January 6 insurrectionists. They say it's a day late and a dollar short. And he'll pardon them as fast as he'll pay Rudy.

Anyone pardoned is out of legal jeopardy and can be compelled to testify in full.

That very quickly goes right up the hierarchy to the organisers and then to whoever they reported to, and thus from the Capitol steps to the White House inner circle.

Pardoning them would be self-hazardous for Trump, so he didn’t. They were disposable pawns from the get-go, as they are now starting to discover.

Sucks to be conned, doesn’t it?

Here's Tea Pain's take on Pence's statement about the electoral votes:

Write this down. Mike Pence wouldn't have spoken out against Trump today unless he knows FOR CERTAIN Trump's in a world of trouble.

Beau talks of an unforced error. At first I thought he meant the batshit statement from the RNC that January sixth was 'legitimate political discourse'. Trump called it 'hugs and kisses'.

But Beau is referring to McConnell. I immediately saw what McConnell was going as political because that's all he does. Power and party. That's his bottom line.

The establishment republicans are distancing themselves pretty hard now from the folks calling it a 'tourist event'. "I think they know what the committee has seen."

    And we've got a WWE line-up here:

    Crenshaw v. Freedom Caucus

    McConnell v. McCarthy

Trump v. Pence (and DeSantis who doesn't want to take a side)

Trump v. Cheney, DeSantis, folks who voted against him...

    Many splits.

Marcie Wheeler of Empty Wheel notes that it's now official. Seditious Conspiracy. Rhodes has pled guilty. (link is to court document)

Joshua James, the Oath Keeper who provided “security” to Roger Stone the morning of January 6 and who later plotted with Stewart Rhodes, just pled guilty to seditious conspiracy and obstruction. Here’s my live thread. (twitter)

The key takeaways are that seditious conspiracy plea. It means, henceforward, we can legally describe January 6 as such.

And also that James is cooperating with prosecutors. His allocution, which I’ll return to tomorrow after it’s posted, focused closely on Rhodes.

But James is a crucial witness about how the Oath Keepers were in touch with Roger Stone.

For those of you who’ve been wondering what Merrick Garland’s DOJ has been doing for the last year, it’s this: January 6 was officially, for at least one participant, sedition.
Fools rush in. Looks like Garland ain't no fool.

Roger Stone, apparently loved by many, is in deep doodoo. Of course, as an admitted criminal, he must feel no shame. I wonder if he still thinks he'll just get away with his crimes.

Eastman, of the fake elector letters, is implicated by the January 6 committee.

[…] The Select Committee is filing a brief in the lawsuit filed by Professor John Eastman in his attempt to keep records hidden behind claims of attorney-client privilege.

In the brief, the Committee lays out numerous arguments refuting Eastman’s claims.

The facts we’ve gathered strongly suggest that Dr. Eastman’s emails may show that he helped Donald Trump advance a corrupt scheme to obstruct the counting of electoral college ballots and a conspiracy to impede the transfer of power.
The Select Committee also has a good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371. […]
Oh dear. They're in trouble now.

Ari Melber has managed to get Peter Navarro on his show several times and Peter just keeps on giving up the ghost and also his claims of privilege. And now, after having defied subpoenas, is under arrest.

Hubris and arrogance might impress, but they're a lot of hot air when you're on the wrong side of facts and evidence.

The public hearings of the January 6 committee will be airing in mere days. Liz Cheney recently had some very interesting things to say when speaking with Robert Costa.

CBS News' Robert Costa asked the committee's vice chair, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, “Are you confident that what you have found as a committee will somehow grab the American people by the lapels and say, ‘Wake up: You have to pay attention’?”

“I am,” she replied, calling the insurrection “an ongoing threat.”

“You know, we are not in a situation where former President Trump has expressed any sense of remorse about what happened,” Cheney said. “We are in fact in a situation where he continues to use even more extreme language, frankly, than the language that caused the attack. And so, people must pay attention. People must watch, and they must understand how easily our democratic system can unravel if we don't defend it.”

CHENEY: “Let me say it this way: I have not learned anything that has made me less concerned.”

COSTA: “Well, what's made you more concerned?”

CHENEY “Well, I think the extent, the expanse, how broad this multi-pronged effort was.”

    COSTA: “Was it a conspiracy?”

CHENEY: “I think certainly—I mean, look, if you look at the court filings …”

COSTA: “But do you believe it was a conspiracy?”

CHENEY: “I do. It is extremely broad. It's extremely well-organized. It's really chilling.

Multiple members of Congress sought pardons after the January sixth insurrection. This means that they have knowledge of guilt and knew they were doing something wrong. When I see the footage of those people attacking the Congress, I get outraged. (not enraged, big difference). Who do they think they are, taking something by force when they lose? No true patriot does that shit. They allowed themselves to be manipulated and egged on. It's epically irresponsible and thus the Congress Critters had to ask for a pardon.

Cowards. Don't they want to do the time to show they stand on their principles? No, because it wasn't about principles. It was about power and cheating.

So after watching just 1/2 of the first hearing thus far last evening, that's already plenty enough to extrapolate out where this thing is headed, and what the purpose it. Although I am appreciative of the evidence gathered seeming to show some real complicity to try and hang onto power by Trump and some of his goon squad, and if the case made gets accepted by the Justice Department anyone found guilty of whatever crime should certainly pay the price accordingly, these proceedings are as far from an objective based investigation, as a prosecutor is to a defense attorney.

The democrats in charge of this are now going on 6 years of wasting their time blaming everything under the sun (including a lost presidential election) on Vladimir Putin, on the side they impeached Captain Chaos twice during that same for silly shit, they still have nothing to run on for the November elections save for the usual screaming from the mountain tops that the other side is worse, and the two republicans on the committee are in the faction attempting to defeat the dominant Orange haired Jesus faction, so who in their right mind can look at this and call it objective?

They're going to spend the rest of this made for prime time theater cherry picking the worst shit they can possibly find (yes some of it looks damning at first blush) to further their agenda, while ignoring anything and everything that doesn't fit with the agenda. The American people are going to get precisely 1/2 the story, no different than what jurors hear from the prosecution; but at least jurors get to hear the other side of the story from the defense team, t.v. viewers will get no such thing.

For instance, I wonder how much time will be spent addressing the utter lack of security around the Capitol building on Jan. 6th? A lot of people had some idea what was coming, hell I had some idea what was coming for crying out loud, so why was the joint left all but unguarded? We've seen other examples of police being under stand down orders, what happened in Charlottesville in 2017 was one such example, and there's every indication that this is what happened on Jan. 6th as well. Some people in high places facilitated this to happen, they invited it.

I was pleasantly surprised to see today that Jimmy Dore did a very good job at demonstrating the other side of this coin that I'm pointing to. "Insurrection Porn", ROFL!
The unexamined life is not worth living.
