I'm thinking this is more than just good old fashioned boycotting DT. When I see performers being forced to either condemn Putin of lost their jobs, it looking more like a new updated version of the red scare. I think this is a race to the bottom of companies fearful of being called Putin supporters if they continue doing business.

It's amazing that the US still, this very minute, has troops in parts of Syria jacking their oil. The US is also currently arming and helping the Saudis out logistically in their war and starvation efforts against Yemen.

Then we had the total annihilation of Libya, and of course the invasion of Iraq.

    No consequences suffered...

Yet the US wags the finger of guilt in this moment as if they're pure as the wind driven snow, and now they're fanning the flames of a new red scare. It will be interesting to see if the cancellation bug gets down to the personal level for the average person on the street. Openly denounce Putin, or suffer the consequences.

No one is innocent of having gone astray despite the purity or evility (my new word for the day) of motivations.

Qaddafi was a madman, Hussein (no not Obama) was a madman. They both internally killed more of their own people than any outside force ever did. If one was to take a body-for-body count and grouped into good and bad, the authoritarian strong pepos killed many more on the good side, than the 'helpers' did on the bad side.

The international community decides who should suffer consequences for good or bad, opinions of the peanut gallery matter not. Losing jobs? More like losing companies for abandoning social responsibility and morality. Surely you wouldn't advocate for another WWII version of the Ford company?

"Probably not. There is no way for them to use it or export it. I suspect the idea is to preserve the infrastructure from the various factions (especially ISIS) until the region quiets down. Remember, smuggling that oil was a major source of funds for ISIS."

Businesses were going to stop giving money to the GOP after January six. And that didn't last for long, because Capitalism.

After 9/11 people weren't being vetted to see if they were anti-muslim, were they? Actually, it's very likely some were. So perhaps your concerns are well-founded, Fred. Lord knows the 'They hate America' rhetoric sank in profoundly. Which is why pointing the finger at any group of Americans and claiming that they hate America is a very dangerous activity. It could/does cost lives.

I don't see being anti-Putin becoming anything like that. Unless, of course, he tries to use nukes.

The scare that's been spread in recent years is socialism by Americans, not red Russia. The denial over the last several years has been the actual activities by Russia fecking with the US. Investigating that stuff has to do with stopping hacking, propaganda, money-laundering, etc. Why Americans are in such denial over that is a mystery to me.

But people really hate to admit being wrong, or worse, being suckered.
