American politics is what it is ... they all bid for the sentiments of the people that will win them elections. I think the country is inexorably inching toward the left.

To coin a paraphrase from H.G. Wells: "Despite the eddying of the river, the current is flowing in one direction". LOL, wow that is a really bad paraphrase.

There is a reason some writers produce classics. It is because they are so damn good at turning a phrase.

Am very happy with the landscape now that Trumpy is not getting smashed 24/7 and new kids on the block appear to be doing so so well, have not heard a bad thing about president left and his people or president right and his people, the conspiracy that president right had dementia and Kamala would be taking over asap does not seem to be correct, the conspiracy that China/putrids/tptW is running USAian peoples is obviousely incorrect as we are told most Usaians are very happy how things are going atm, all very positive indeed. Trumpy being so quiet is interesting, one ponders.

Rumores of the need to wear 3 masks nowadays because this will assist stopping the spread is also so so interesting because soon not being able to breathe at all due to too many masks will be the case but i will not argue with the science on this.

Oh and butt swabbing will soon be the new thing, no kidding.

I'm not a fan of Biden, but it looks like he already has been trying to clean things after Trump. I'm not sure if that can be called draining the swamp, but Trumpster sure as hell was widening the toxic swamp and he was probably the biggest swamp creature out there. Once again only time will tell how the current POTUS will be, I don't have high expectations for Biden and his corporate overlords. However, if he doesn't take the US into any more senseless wars or bomb the shit out of people like Obama then maybe, just maybe he might be a decent leader. To be honest Trump has set the bar so low that even a chimp in the office could do better than him.

Well, there is either way something to consider here, and that is Joe Biden's age. He's 78 years old already, going on 79, which means that by the time of the 2024 elections, he'll already be close to 83 ─ his birthday is 20 November. So if he's still alive by then, then there's no guarantee that he'll also go for yet another four years if re-elected.

I haven't heard that rumor yet, but it either way makes no sense. It's already hard enough to breathe with only a single mask.

Yep, I read about that yesterday. The Chinese are introducing that, and it'll probably blow over to the West as well. They can keep it. I'd rather voluntarily quarantine myself ─ I've already done that twice now ─ but ain't nobody gonna come near my ass with none o' them swabs, no Siree! If they so much as even try, I'll fart right up their noses to the tune of the shark attack in "Jaws"!

No ifs, ands, or butts about it.

I have no desire to be field stripped.

Here's something that happens when you allow yourself to be led down a garden path,

Oklahoma trying to return its $2m stockpile of hydroxychloroquine

In April, Gov. Kevin Stitt, who ordered the hydroxychloroquine purchase, defended it by saying that while it may not be a useful treatment for the coronavirus, the drug had multiple other uses and “that money will not have gone to waste in any respect.”

But nearly a year later the state is trying to offload the drug back to its original supplier, California-based FFF Enterprises, Inc, a private pharmaceutical wholesaler.

Alex Gerszewski, a spokesman for Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter, told The Frontier this week that the AG’s office was working with the state health department “to try to figure out a solution.”

Here's the thing...none of it will matter. Biden will be castigated eventually ... hell, they crucified Jesus Christ. Money and Power want to retain money and power, the poor want to be moneyed and powerful and have food to eat. The struggle is not a political one; that will never be resolved. The problems lay in the minds and hearts of the people. Yeah, we're screwed.

But the path is long, winding, and covered in shards of glass. That amazing world is still very far away, and humanity has a way of putting up speed limits everywhere, and then lowering them all the time.

We have folks being elected to office who want to shoot and hang other elected officials.

When I was growing up my Dad told me that one of the beautiful things about America is that we settle our disputes in the courts and through legislation, not by shooting each other.

People don't have to be afraid to go shopping or to their jobs.

    Ahh, the golden years.

I'm very glad my Dad has passed so that he doesn't have to witness the destructive road his party has gone down. He doesn't have to witness his son being in full blown denial.

And most importantly he didn't have to see his Capitol besieged by seditious members of his own team which he was so loyal to.

He would have been in tears.

What will the witnesses say? The same folks who wanted them before suddenly don't now. I wonder why?

For once, doing what's best for the country would be what's best for the party. How 'bout just doing it?

Mike Lofgren was a long-time Republican Congressional staff member.

Mike Lofgren, a former Republican congressional staff member of 28 years, began warning about the danger of the GOP in 2011, even going so far as to condemn his longtime party as a "death cult." Before his retirement, Lofgren worked in both the House and Senate as a specialist staffer for national security affairs, tasked with analyzing Pentagon budget requests and preparing military-related legislation.
The unique combination of Lofgren's historical expertise and his long career in the "boiler room" of legislative politics, as he calls it, put him in the perfect position to see the destructive monstrosity that Republicans and their far-right allies have created. He has detailed his analysis and experience in two books, "The Party Is Over: How Republicans Went Crazy, Democrats Became Useless and the Middle Class Got Shafted" and "The Deep State: The Fall of the Constitution and the Rise of a Shadow Government."

With that latter title, by the way, Lofgren was not gesturing toward the conspiracy-theory delusion currently popular among Trump supporters. Rather, he meant "deep state" as an umbrella term for the lobbying firms, corporate donors and military-industrial complex that have a stranglehold on American public policy.

    In Mark's own words:

I worked for three decades in Congress. Regardless of how peeved I might have been over some policy or another, I was proud of my public service. To see the place trashed like that, and I mean really desecrated — there were people shitting on the floor, and smearing it on the walls. The insane violence of a mob beating a cop with a fire extinguisher and shoving him down the marble stairs was horrifying. At the same time, once the mob was dispersed, they went throughout the D.C. metro area randomly beating up people whom they could victimize. Later that afternoon, my daughter, who does not live in D.C. but in Arlington, across the river, was out walking her dog, and saw these thugs spewing out of the Metro station like toxic waste. She had to do a 180. Arlington was placed under curfew that night. All these occurrences, including having to worry about my own family's safety, left some pretty vivid impressions, to say the least.
In terms of the larger picture, at least three allied European intelligence agencies believe that Trump fomented the mob because he could not get the military to assist him. They have suggested there was at least some degree of collusion with federal law enforcement.
I hadn't really thought much about it but I imagine the European intelligence agencies have had a very close eye on us these last four years.

[T]hat view is reinforced by a former senior official on Trump's National Security Council — Fiona Hill, whom everyone should recognize from the Russiagate testimony she gave. She believes that Trump was consciously trying to trigger a coup using the military, and that the intervention from 10 former secretaries of defense may have prevented it.
We now know that the Republican Attorneys General Association sent out robocalls the day before, encouraging people to descend on the Capitol. Republican dark money financed the rioters, gave them bus tickets and chartered the transportation. Dark money is the so-called 501(c)(4) organizations with anonymous donors, that Republicans on the Supreme Court claim is such a wonderful idea for freedom.
I've been pointing out the projection. They scream about buses because that's what they do.

Finally, two-thirds of House Republicans voted to nullify the results of legitimate elections that had been recounted multiple times and survived many court challenges. They did this a few hours after the entire place was vandalized and everybody's lives were in danger.
    THEY HAVE NO HONOR.

The approach has to be, first, governmental, with laws and the application of those laws, but also socially, by boycotting and putting pressures on corporations.
People know this. That's why they're crying like babies over 'cancel culture' and 'censorship'.

Because they themselves used these tactics to gain their societal dominance. They just don't want to use it. They wanted to 'let markets speak' before. They don't now.

    Of course.

I've learned that the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee [Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi] is demanding that Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz be placed on the no-fly list. See, there are many tools available. Republicans are so fond of antiterrorist laws: I say, let's use them against Republicans who advocated violence. We can use civil and criminal RICO statutes to confiscate the money of GOP organizations that fund violent extremism.
A plain reading of the 14th Amendment...is a pure finding by Congress that they are committing insurrection, and are barred from holding office. The beauty of it is that it requires only a simple majority in each house, whereas impeachment requires two-thirds in the Senate to convict, and knowing Republicans as I do, we may not get two-thirds. The 14th does require, however, two-thirds to lift the ban and reinstate their right to run for office. So there is a bigger hurdle to relieve them of the ban than to punish them.
All of this is necessary because going easy on these people — holding their hands, giving them a cup of tea and trying to understand them — will not work. They take it as weakness and a sign that they will prevail. If people are supporting violent overthrow of the government, I see no reason — morally, politically or practically — why our society should not ostracize them.
    There's more.
