Something you watched?
Yeah, I do understand as it's awkward to see such scenes with parents. There was only one brief scene of sleeping together, no nudity.
Well, the director Denis Villeneuve, who is possibly the best scifi director at the moment, wants to direct part three eventually which would be about the book Dune Messiah. He said that after that he would let someone else take over, I suppose that's when the story starts to get more strange. There's also the Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune which would be even harder to film. There are varying opinions about where the series started to get worse, others love all the books Herbert wrote while only some think that the first Dune book was the best and only worthwhile reading, Lord of the Rings of scifi. I wonder if I would ever get to read all of Frank Herbert's Dune books.
Then there are the books written by Herbert's son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson which take place in the Dune universe and "expand" the stories, yet also contradict Frank Herbert's ideas. At best they're considered fan-fiction and at worst garbage. Supposedly Frank Herbert left behind notes of his unfinished script for his next book and his son took over, but I don't know how much or if any notes were left. Also while writers might make notes, who really knows if they would actually use the stuff written in them in their books.

I never commented on what I thought about Dune Part Deux...I was disappointed (as usual). It was portrayed epically though some of the special effects (the worm riding) defied physics but that was acceptable, in truth they have never looked correct to me. I was watching Gio's post (which started with 2 women and a spacecraft outside their window) and noticed that it was fashioned in what I was told once steampunk. it is very dreary but with contrasting lighting schemes that pop within the contrast. Dune failed in creating that cinematic backdrop. I'm surprised that such a high-budget film could fail so dramatically. The makers of the film should study Chinese filmmaking styles.

Well that's strange, I've only heard very few hardcore Dune-fans disliking the film and even many of them loved it. Overall it's a very highly loved epic film now. I thought it was funny that the major complaint my brother had too was the sandworms and how people were easily taming and riding them into battle. It didn't bother me at all, although I wondered why they didn't show how groups of people rode the worm bus. The minor complaint I have about the movie is that Christopher Walken felt out of place as the Emperor. He had only really one good line, but otherwise he seemed like an old tired grandpa. Usually I don't say that movies are short, but this could have been longer. I wanted to see more. The first book could even have been turned into a trilogy. It could work even better in the form of a series.

yeah, I would not necessarily disagree but it was too 'bland' for me. I generally don't like 'dark' colored movies because, in honesty, I usually can't see them that well. This was not the case with Dune, though...it struck me at the end of the movie how colorless it had been. Blazing sunrises and sunsets bursting with 'strange' color? Odd-colored sand animals? rich spacecraft lights...nada?! There were big fans there and I was reluctant to give them my 'full' impression.

So you are still waiting for the ultimate Dune movie then. Maybe third time's the charm, eh? You didn't like the books either though?
Did you see it with your daughter though, did she like it? I think men like these kind of movies more. I had a woman next to me in the theater and I noticed that she was looking at her smart watch like every 15-30 minutes because the light was blinking, it was annoying.

That looks like one of those offbeat but very entertaining movies (series)...I'll be watching it but I won't be happy...now that Prime has 'limited' commercial breaks. And I wouldn't say I like the Amazon credit card I've had for years simply because I have to change my password each time I try to pay the bill. After years of frustration, I told them to cancel it and I made it plain the only reason I was canceling my favorite card was because their website s*cked big d*cks AND I didn't equivocate about it.![]()

That's why I myself stopped watching it now many years ago, and why I cancelled my cable TV subscription altogether. I don't remember when exactly, but I think it's been about ten years now that I stopped watching TV. I still have the TV itself — it is now 23 years old — and it's still functional, but it's a big and heavy CRT device, so it would be pointless trying to sell it, now that everyone's had access to affordable high-resolution flat-screen TVs and so-called smart TVs for many years already. No one would want to buy the damn thing.![]()

I don't know what the pawn shop market is in Belgium but you might get a bit of cash from that.
I still have a 36-inch smart tv that I would give to you if you were interested. It seems you can get converters for the outlet problem. A lot of tv movie channels are free nowadays. Accessible by wifi.

Nah, I'd probably have to give it away to the recycling shop. Nobody's going to want to pay for a behemoth like that when they can get something much better and lighter for very little money.
Anyway, it's not really sitting in the way, so that's for my brother to worry about once the Grim Reaper will have come for me.
That is very kind of you, but I don't plan on watching TV anymore, and I've cancelled my cable TV subscriptions — both the digital TV thing with Prime and cable TV itself. In addition to that, it would never work, because you guys are using NTSC, while Europe uses PAL.![]()

Another one I missed, but I thought it was an interesting foray into 'shaped' but at the same time 'unfettered' human and social natures:

Is Voyagers movie worth watching?
Its microcosmic allegory is thin, and the execution is unconvincing. Colin Farrell brings some weight to the proceedings but even he can't distract from the predictable teens-gone-wild-in-space plot. Ultimately, Voyagers might appeal to a very specific YA crowd, but even they might poke their holes through this one.
