"I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
When Jesus said that, of course he didn't literally mean that a wealthy or a rich person couldn't get to heaven (which is within), but that often with "riches" or money and power comes temptations and arrogance, which causes ones ego to to become stronger and thus one tends to degenerate spiritually speaking. That is if you think that money makes you superior compared to others somehow.
The closer to God you come, the humbler you will become. Not because of any punishment, but because your soul is tempered by the very nature of life itself, the ego weakens and that way your heart opens up more and increased empathy is a natural byproduct of that. True wealth is how much love and compassion one possesses in their heart.
