I can only speak for myself. I have no idea what request is being made.

We English speakers have a certain grammar structure we use for coherence.

It really helps when the message to be conveyed can be comprehended.

Aianawa is reflecting on the underhanded commenting that CAN but need not be so ubiquitous on this lovely shire's forum.

    I give up here.

Never have communication problems, except in text.

Text is the currency of forums.

Although it must be said. Some treat text with more respect than others.

Whether that is such a good thing is another topic.

    I think it's 'shrooms.

In my humble opinion, the French language was made for poetry:

    Il pleure dans mon coeur
    Comme il pleut sur la ville ;
    Quelle est cette langueur
    Qui pénètre mon coeur ?

Ô bruit doux de la pluie
Par terre et sur les toits !
    Pour un coeur qui s'ennuie,
Ô le chant de la pluie !

    Il pleure sans raison
    Dans ce coeur qui s'écoeure.
    Quoi ! nulle trahison ?
    Ce deuil est sans raison.

    C'est bien la pire peine
    De ne savoir pourquoi
    Sans amour et sans haine
Mon coeur a tant de peine !”

For us non poly-linguists and all those that always skipped their Latin classes:

He is crying in my heart
    As it rains over the town ;
    What is this languor
    Who penetrates my heart?

    Oh sweet sound of rain
    Ground and on rooftops !
For a heart that is bored,
O the song of the rain!

    He cries for no reason
    In this sickening heart.
    What! no treason ?
    This mourning is without reason.

    It's the worst sentence
    Not to know why
    Without love and without hate
My heart hurts so much !"

Then why did you use Google The Abominable™ for the translation?

It is raining in my heart,
    As it rains over the city;
    What is this languor
    That penetrates my heart?

Oh, soft sound of the rain,
On the ground and on the roofs!
    For a troubled heart
Oh, the song of the rain!

    It rains for no reason,
In this heart that's growing sick
    What! No betrayal?
    This suffering is without reason.

It is however the worst pain
    To not know why
    Without love and without hatred
My heart would hurt this much.

And the poem is apparently called "Romances without promises" ─ the word "parole" literally translates to "word of honor", but in this context, poetic license must be observed.

I also live in a country where French is an official language, and ─ in spite of the fact that that the majority of the population speaks Dutch ─ up until 1960, it was also the only official language.

That said, the poem reminds me of this Belgian song from the early 1980s. I never really liked it, but it was quite a hit.

The band was named after its singer, Patrick Nebel ─ "Nebel" is the German word for mist, hence the name of the band. He committed suicide a few years after this song was released.

Yes, every Flemish kid gets French classes at school from fifth grade onward, and most of my friends when we went on vacation to the coast every year were from the francophone part of the country, where Dutch is an optional course. So they didn't speak Dutch ─ even though the coastal region is of course Dutch-speaking ─ and so I spoke French with them. It taught me more about French than the school did.

That said however, I haven't actively spoken any French anymore ─ with the exception of a few minor instances ─ since the mid 1980s, so my French is very rusty right now.

We also had German classes ─ in high school only ─ but that was only one hour per week, and even though we had to learn all about the (very complex) grammar rules, we were not required to be able to actually learn how to speak or write in German. We were only required to understand it.

As for Afrikaans, yes, I speak a fair bit of Afrikaans as well because I have friends in South Africa, and Afrikaans is an offshoot of Dutch. Its grammar and spelling is incredibly simple compared to Dutch ─ there is no difference between the singular and plural of verbs, no first, second or third person conjugation, they don't use the simple past tense (with a few exceptions) and they also don't use the letters "c", "x" or "z" ─ and its vocabulary and pronunciation sit very close to dialectic Flemish. Another difference is that dialectic Flemish contains a lot of words that were borrowed from French ─ for reasons explained higher up already ─ while Afrikaans borrows a lot of words from English, and sometimes from Xhosa and Zulu.

It also has several slang expressions and contractions that have been accepted into official Afrikaans, albeit that they normally also use double negation ─ e.g. "ek het dit nie gesien nie" ("I haven't seen that"/"I didn't see that"). If, as a Dutch-speaking person, you hear (or read) that for the very first time, then it's very funny, because then it sounds/looks just like baby talk.

Only English and Swedish are mandatory here in Finland. I didn't like Swedish even though it's the second language here.
In earlier grades in school I kinda accidentally chose French as an optional language class and I studied it for years.
Unfortunately I honestly can say that I don't remember much of my French lessons. I mostly just learned the pronunciation.

I watched this video about Afrikaans. Here's one about Finnish.
