I thought this community would have at least half the membership remember a reality where this, like lots of the other problem often discussed, was entirely absolutely PREDICTABLE.

But soooo many have gotten sooo good at finding “too many coincidences” for it to be anything other than human behavior being psychotic on top of mostly psychopathic. And we project that on to the situation: “no, it can’t be the way we are living that wrecked the ecosystem and f***ed human health, it’s them thar dragons....the evil people/demons/reptiles/whatever” that clearly unleashed a virus so ‘they’ can somehow benefit”

We live in a structure where the selfish individualism ideology thrives on the fear of “others” among our own species, demonizing cooperative ideals as “evil socialism”, living in harmony with our fellow humans, let alone the only planet we got at the moment is somehow terrible or anti-whatevercountryyouare from to way too many people.

    It’s madness
You are making a lot of assumptions about people you barely know.

That's the curse of the internet, you often have to judge people and make assumptions about them based on limited information.

Your post also doesn't make a lot of sense, I struggled to extract your exact point from it, so why don't you actually say what you mean and get to the point?

    Thanks.

He's undecided I think, Chris. Like the rest of us. I think donk is frustrated by the lack of clear thinking. You have made some very good points as Aragorn has. I'm just being me, a born and bred middle-of-the-roader. For me, it is always a wait-and-see situation.

My point is, who did it and to what end, if you are gonna throw out there it is some intentionally made...weapon? Tool?

I hate throwing the Ockham razor around, but the way humans treat the earth, we were overdue for something like this, according to what I have observed. I could be wrong, and it “triggered” me when you cavalierly contradict what I consider “common sense”

What assumptions did I make? My ONLY connection to your post was your statements of too many coincidences for it to be natural. I feel the opposite. And “common sense” is getting crazy

And “common sense” is getting crazy
You are so right, donk. I get called all kinds of names just for using facts and common sense. It's part of the upside down world we're in.

But we're getting shots in arms now and hopefully things will be looking up a bit.

A little off-topic, but I noticed that neo-liberalism is suspiciously similar to classical liberalism.

Yes indeed, along with Czechia, we have the highest number of daily deaths per population at the moment. I know of several people in my circle of friends and family, who passed away in the last few weeks, all of them from Covid.

Btw, if you would believe it, I came across my ex-GF the other day, who hasn't seen her family in two years (including her young daughters). She still doesn't believe that Covid is real, despite the fact that both of us have gotten it and I had to be hospitalised. She also refuses to get the Vaccine, even though it would be required for her to return home and see her family. She reads the utter bullshit on Russian-language social media every day about how the pandemic is a hoax and the vaccine a conspiracy to cull the population. I literally couldn't believe my ears.

Actually, the government here is doing a decent job of handling the pandemic, much better than the EU overall. The big issue we have is a very high proportion of elderly and people with poor health in general, same as in Czechia, that is why we have so many deaths. The healthcare system actually performed a lot better than I would have expected.

If you're interested in the political situation around the pandemic in Hungary, this is a good summary:

    read://https_www.budapesttimes.hu/?u...survey-says%2F

Majority of Hungarians satisfied with crisis management, survey says

The survey commissioned by the paper showed that support for vaccination has increased and three-quarters of adults said they supported it. Including people already vaccinated, some 6 million Hungarians plan to get vaccinated, it added.

Even among people critical of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, support for vaccination increased compared to last week but it remained under the national average of 66 percent. At the same time, 80 percent of Orbán’s supporters also support getting vaccinated, the paper said.

A total of 53 percent of those surveyed said that once the Hungarian authorities issued their approval for Chinese and Russian vaccines, it was good that Hungary started administering these jabs. Only 33 percent said that Hungary should have waited for an EU approval before using these vaccines. Even 35 percent of those critical of Orbán expressed support for the government’s position in the vaccination drive, the paper sad.

Some 13 percent of the people surveyed said that epidemic management would have been better if the left wing had been in government. Among potential left-wing supporters critical of Orbán, some 27 percent said that a left-wing government would have managed the coronavirus crisis better than the current government and only 5 percent of voters with unknown party preference said the same, the paper added.

Parbeszed urges broad consultations on government’s post-pandemic recovery plan

The opposition Parbeszed party has called on the government to consult with local councils, professional organisations and civil groups on its post-pandemic recovery plan.

Benedek Javor, the party’s European Union expert, told an online press conference on Friday that the government should have been holding consultations with social partners on its recovery and resilience plan since November. Its failure to do so, he added, went against EU rules on the bloc’s post-pandemic recovery fund.

Javor criticised the government’s plan for being “extremely weak from a professional standpoint”. Whereas the EU regulations mandate that member states spend at least 37 percent of their share of the funds on tackling climate change and around a quarter of it on digitalisation, Hungary’s recovery plan fails to meet these targets, he said.

Instead, he said, the government wanted to spend almost the entirety of the 5,800 billion forint (EUR 16.2bn) package on construction projects, when the EU’s country-specific recommendations for Hungary make it clear, for example, that the cabinet should extend the period during which the jobseekers’ allowance is paid.

Javor said the European Commission was unsatisfied with the anti-graft measures outlined in the package, saying it had not seen enough guarantees that the monies coming from the recovery fund “wouldn’t get lost through channels of corruption”.

He said the government was putting the package’s approval at risk, insisting that if the EC did not approve the plan, payouts to Hungary from the recovery fund could be delayed by several months.

Javor called on the government to allocate more funding within the plan towards renewable energy, the protection of ecosystems, investments in water management and projects aimed at addressing climate change.

It really is mind-blowing, Chris. And the irony of the fact that more deaths have been caused by the denial than would have otherwise occurred is astounding. Up has become down.

I'm now eligible for a vaccine. That happened so much more quickly than I had originally expected that I haven't even signed up yet. But I don't expect to change my behavior a great deal. Variants are around and more pandemics are coming. The only question is which one first.

If this insane denial continues, the human population could be significantly reduced. Perhaps this is a natural cycle. We become numerous, too big for our britches, collectively crazy, and then suffer the consequences. (very unscientific, I know).

I've been known to entertain pretty crazy conspiracy theories myself, at least on a theoretical or "what if" level, but it stops being a form of entertainment when real people are dying because of it.

In the case of my ex-GF, she can't even go home to the Ukraine into her own house and see her family until she gets vaccinated, yet she still absolutely refuses to do so. Some people refuse to listen to reason and will shoot themselves in the foot as a result. She had covid the same time I did, but didn't even tell me or anyone else for that matter. That included her flatmates and the company she was working for, where she shared breathing space with hundreds of other people in an enclosed space. Who knows how many people she ended up infecting.

I don't understand the level of selfishness displayed by your ex, Chris. Freedom doesn't include harming or endangering other people.

She did it because she would have lost income otherwise. The way she sees it (I presume) is that covid isn't real anyway, it's just the flu and whatnot and people are making a huge fuss about nothing, the idiots.

The new Indian variant is highly concerning.

We have yet another variant that is more tranmissible and more deadly at the same time, something that shouldn't be happening under normal circumstances.

Hospitals in India are chock-full and running out of oxygen, with many people dying before they can even make it into the Hospital.

I'm afraid this means another global wave is just around the corner, so brace yourselves.

Hungary's goverment decided to open everything up, at least to those with vaccine passports, against this backdrop, which looks a tad premature, especially as we now have the highest rate of covid deaths per capita (Eat our Dust, Czechia!).

I don't know how effective vaccines will ultimately prove to be, but I have a bad feeling about this next wave, fuelled by the Indian and Brazilian variants.
