We have folks in America who are dying and remain in full denial. It's so very sad.

In “Air Force nurses deployed to North Dakota to address hospital staffing crunch”, Adam Willis reported late yesterday in the Grand Forks Herald that the US Air Force is deploying 60 medical personnel, mostly nurses, to North Dakota as infection counts rise in the state. North Dakota currently has the worst coronavirus infection rate for any nation or state in the world, and more than one in every 1,000 North Dakotans has already died from the disease.

For many months, North Dakota had resisted imposing mask mandates or curfews even as infections rose. A week ago Gov. Doug Burgum finally announced a statewide mask mandate. However, violations are treated as infractions with the possibility of a ticket, the governor’s order does not specify the size of the fine so each municipality and county can determine the penalty if any, and several North Dakota sheriffs and police departments have said that they won’t enforce the mask order. Last week’s order does not cover church services (so they can continue to be maskless), and Burgum amended the order Wednesday to also allow winter sports practices and school extracurricular activities to resume on November 30; sports competitions can resume on December 14.

The North Dakota state health department is currently led by Dirk Wilke, who has no medical training. The previous state health officer Dr. Andrew Stahl resigned in September after Gov. Burgum rescinded a quarantine order.

This is the Republican way. Have folks run things who have no experience or relevant knowledge. This is how Trump has headed our national agencies. With people who don't know what they're doing and also don't care. Then they can point at the government and say, "Failure!" while conveniently ignoring their direct causal relationship.

Hospitals around the country are stressed:

In “‘People are going to die’: Hospitals in half the states are facing a massive staffing shortage as Covid-19 surges”, Olivia Goldhill reported yesterday in STAT that the problem is not limited to North Dakota. Hospitals in at least 25 states are critically short of staff due to COVID-19. Goldhill writes:

The shortages are primarily caused by overwhelming numbers of patients as coronavirus spreads, combined with decreasing staff levels as nurses and doctors themselves fall sick or have to quarantine after being exposed to infected people. Covid-19 is also prevalent in rural areas that have been struggling with a shortage of health professionals for years; hospitals in more remote regions don’t have equipment such as ventilators, and so must transfer severely ill patients to already-overwhelmed urban health care systems. The scale of the problem makes it harder to address: Systems designed to offset shortages by bringing in backup from other areas don’t work when so many states are affected simultaneously.

Once again, the cities are supporting the rural areas, despite the lack of gratitude or appreciation.

Seems like i'll be released from hospital on Monday, if I get a negative covid test.

I am feeling a lot better, no longer need oxygen either.

Bad news is, I found out I have type 2 diabetes, so will probably have to deal with that till the rest of my life.

At least now i know, probably had it for years.

If there not talking about pharmaceutical intervention, you might be able to deal with it with just a sensible diet. Best of luck... You might have to cut back on the booze though ... bummer ...

I'm beginning to understand the drive towards chaos and how claiming everything is a hoax facilitates that drive.

History is a hoax. Science is a hoax. Climate is a hoax. Viruses are a hoax. Vaccines are a hoax. Money is a hoax.

Who benefits from this chaos? Who is lining their pockets while people suffer and systems fall apart?

The grifting is certainly real. The con is real.

So, I've been transferred from the covid ward to gastroenterology, to treat my diabetes and to teach me how to measure my blood sugar levels and inject myself with insulin 4 times a day. Should be released on Friday. However the doctor here isn't convinced I've recovered from covid, they'll do another test tomorrow. Today's pcr test came back negative.

you actually got to do insulin injections? Ru sure the covid didn't induce that? Did you have any symptoms or did they suggest how long you might have been in that state? I'm glad you're getting past the covid. Gastroenterology? that's related to the diabetes. Incidentally my older brother is Type-1 and has been doing injections forever. He felt that he went undiagnosed for quite awhile. He's got 30 years on you and still going strong. My ex's family is littered with diabetics and her sisters have had Type-2 for quite a few years now ... still going strong.

Well, one of the unfortunate complications of covid can be diabetes, but I'm pretty sure now I've had it for a couple of years now. Yeah, there are also quite a few diabetics in my family, so I'm not surprised I got it, but I'm way younger than my relatives, when they got it

It's not the end of the world, I'll just have to manage it with diet and 4 insulin shots a day.

My lungs are still far from ok though, apparently it can be several months until they recover and there can be permanent scarring. This covid virus is a bitch.

The situation is getting out of hand here in Finland again, because people have been too lax. The government is considering another lockdown which of course won't be fun for anyone, but people cause this with their stupid and shortsighted actions. Patience is a skill which not too many have mastered. Also I read on the news that it will be the third corona wave in Europe now.

Talking heads were slamming the U.S. holiday travelers. I wonder how many have compelling reasons to travel ... like to see their relatives who will die from Covid in the next few months (before Biden has a chance to do anything).

As I've said before my blood type is O+. As I'm someone who has been suffering from autoimmune issues I have been sick a lot this year because my immune defense has been lower to begin with and for months I have been unwell, that is not normal even for me. It felt as if I had a virus in my system for ages and maybe I still do. Only during the past few weeks I've felt somewhat better again and I can actually somewhat function now, but I don't yet know if I've actually been getting better. Earlier when I thought that I was getting better the damn symptoms returned so now I'm hoping that my immune system is getting the upper hand.
