So, I've officially become fed up with the Coronapanic (tm).

Yes, we need to take the proper precautions, this is serious, it's not the flu, it's not a hoax, it has nothing to do with 5G, chemtrails or intergalactic space lizards, but everyone around me is now in total panic mode and are swallowing every silly theory out there that granny has come up with on facebook. My sister sends several of these to me every day and I have to carefully debunk them one-by-one.

The latest one is that Sauna will kill the virus and cure you. No, you'll probably catch it if you go to a public sauna, so for the the Love of God, don't.

No doubt many will die, hospitals will be overwhelmed, nurses and doctors will cry (and die), etc...

Guess what, that's what happens during an epidemic, whether it's Cholera, The Plague or the Flu.

It will be tough, but we will deal with it, survive and life will go on.

At least people are now taking it seriously, I just wish they didn't spend their whole day on facebook gobbling up gobshite.

The terrifying thing is that people with double-digit IQs (which is the vast majority of the planet's population) are all now coming up with, or at least disseminating their own little pet theory regarding what is "really" happening and what can be done about it. Everyone's a feckin' expert now, except actual experts, because those aren't to be believed for some reason.

I realized that I've had a headache all week...if i'm in the middle of this I hope I make it all the way through without complications. I asked around and so far no one knew anyone in my local community that is sick...I consider that a good thing.

Increasingly, I'm starting to think that those that say this is a manufactured crisis are not entirely wrong...

Here in Hungary, the Coronapanic (tm) is being used to give the already authoritarian government dictatorial powers. Essentially, we have martial law now, where the government can do whatever the hell it wants without any oversight from parliament, the opposition or the supreme court, at least during the duration of the crisis, which many experts say, might be for years. Our government now basically rules through executive orders and lawmaking has been suspended. They are calling it Hungary's "Palpatine" moment, if you remember that scene from Star Wars, where the republic died and the emperor took over supposedly in response to a crisis, which turned out to be his doing all along.

Just about all of my co-workers have the same thing going on...occasional cough, runny nose, inner ear sensitivity...one says he feels like he has the flu. Everyone for the last week or two has been saying their allergies are acting up...one can tell they are wondering just what they have.

Great to see this thread communicating a variety of information. Australia as of 12 midday today (currently 1.17pm EDST) lots of conditions in place.

We don't have Martial Law but I noted a comment on facebook and the mention of 12 noon so I got out to run errands and to research.

I attended the Post Office - yellow tape in incremental stages. There is a social distancing condition in place. I asked the Post Office Employee - when I got to my turn - do I have to stay behind this line? This was the bright yellow tape that seemed to be a few inches from the bench. No yes or no and we just got on with business - remember this is a small rural area - everyone knows everyone - or at least not many degrees of separation.

Next I attended the newsagency - business as usual there and no yellow tape on the floor.

After that I attended a take away cafe owned by friends. As small business owners I knew they would fill me in. Okay - you can enter the cafe and make a take away order. You cannot eat at the cafe and that is how my friends keep their menu prices down. I think they might leave a chair or two for elderly/people with walking canes/whatever to sit down while they wait. Other food venues have actually removed all tables and seating and are asking people to wait outside while their takeaway food is prepared.

Thought I would ask the Opportunity Shop about their books and dvds. I had planned one day soon to take my time and sift through them. Books need to be held and flicked through - I don't want an excellent book with pages missing et cetera. I was told business as usual and I could sort through the books and dvds whenever I want. They provide cheap healthy food as well but again - it had to be takeaway and not eaten in the shop.

Last but not least - the Library. Not just for the books but some activities like Brain Games where the Librarians spend an hour with prepared tasks for brain exercises. I can go to the Library and handle books, magazines, newspapers and use the photocopy machine. Hand sanitiser is at the front desk and People are encourged to use it. All activities have been cancelled - all ages and they do loads for Children. Management were meeting to discuss further limits. This is a surprise at the Library - a Security Guard. I noted him but did not focus on him as I spoke to the Librarian.

This is however something I did to see whether he would stop me. I keep a hand held fan - literally hand held not battery operated - the old style where you flick it open. There was no air conditioning on as normal so I was feeling hot. I thought surely with the social distancing and the fact the virus is airborne - waving a fan at my face would/should have gained the attention of the Security Guard. Nope.

The day before I attended a supermarket and was saddened to see a sign that stated: Our Staff are here to help not be hurt. That could be related to the bus groups travelling from town to town and clearing out the supermarkets. That seems to have stopped in our area - Police are escorting them out of town and no doubt via the Police Radio the Police in surrounding towns would hear and be prepared before the bus even arrived at the next destination.

Had a scary moment yesterday...started coughing, dizzy, aches, a bit of a sore throat...I was bracing for the whack but it passed after about a half hour. That's the problem with neuroses, it is easy to talk oneself into illness (watch Airplane). I've been doing that since childhood. Overtime, I've learned to take some deep breaths and trust my cleared instincts...

U.S. death rate at 1.20 now...I don't suppose it will hit 0%

I did get on a citywide chat board to see what was going on...There were a couple of people that have been diagnosed positive but seemed to be recovering

The eventual death rate in the US is still anybody's guess. Too many unknowns still. Nobody can explain for instance why the Huge discrepancy between Italy vs Germany, Japan, Korea, etc... in terms of death rates. None of the explanations so far make too much sense. I think the US death rate will fall somewhere in between those two very divergent groups.

I also have no idea what is going to happen in Hungary. It seems that pretty strict social distancing measures where introduced much earlier than elsewhere, when we only had a few officially confirmed cases, on the other hand we have the unhealthiest populace in Europe and a decrepit healthcare system, that is unlikely to cope well with a pandemic of this scale. I just don't know.
