The irony is that the late Gene Roddenberry did actually create the Romulans as a metaphor for Communist China, and that they seem to be headed for exactly the kind of society he predicted.

Are you so certain of that? All I know about it is that those claims were made by the Trump administration as an excuse for a trade war, and that in itself is already shady enough.

The US nationalists have been complaining for ages about "American jobs being lost to the Chinese" over the fact that US companies were having their stuff manufactured in China, so as to be able to cut down on production costs and maintain broader profit margins. Trump did exactly what the nationalists have been demanding for decades, and I see the Huawei spying claim as merely yet another lie from the US government. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has presented any solid evidence yet.

I own a Huawei phone, and I've kept it pretty stock. I've only installed Firefox as an alternative to Google Chrome ─ which does spy on us, and Google is a US-based company ─ but I don't believe it would be spying on me. In fact, it has very detailed permissions settings and it doesn't do anything that you've not explicitly allowed it to do.

Yes, I also noticed that. Apparently the Klingons were based on the Soviets, the Romulans on the Communist Chinese and the Cardassians on the Nazi Germans. The Ferenghi were apparently based on freelance Yankee traders, but to be honest, I think it may be a hidden anti-semitic trope. They swapped the big nose for big ears, but otherwise all the usual stereotypes are there and they were mostly played by Jewish actors.

I am certain about the Huawei thing, though it may very well be a collaboration between them and Google. It happened again a few days ago, where a friend with a Huawei phone casually mentioned a very specific type of power tool whilst his phone was in his pocket. Almost immediately he started getting targeted facebook ads about it.

It's not that the Red Army is necessarily listening in all the time, probably they have listening algorythms that look for keywords and use it for commercial purposes to better be able to target ads. Google Now has an always on function, which constantly listens, unless you switch it off manually, but I'm sure it can easily be hacked to work in the background anyway.

However, the more serious accusations against Huawei, that their telecom towers contain backdoors and are listening in on conversations in western countries, is beyond doubt. Several countries (Canada and France, I think) have actually uprooted their Huawei telecom towers and installed new ones at considerable expense. I doubt they would have done that if the threat wasn't serious.

Huawei is also a de facto branch of the PLA (people's liberation army). But, it is worse than it seems, because all Chinese-made electronic products contain secret backdoors that allow the PLA to take them over remotely. This has been utilised by Iran (with PLA assistance) and they were able to hijack US drones from Iraq remotely and land them in Iranian territory. All recent US weapon systems are vulnerable to Chinese backdoor manipulation, so the Armed Forces actually had to rip out Chinese-made cpus from their weapon systems and procure secure ones from reliable countries at massive expense.

Good Actor and Deepfake AI Technology Create Disturbingly Realistic Results ...

'Actor and impressionist Jim Meskimen shows impressive skills impersonating famous celebrities, which combined with the latest deepfake AI technology creates shockingly convincing results ...

Deepfake is the technology that allows to change the face of any person in an existing video footage with the face of someone else if there were enough photographic images of them shot from similar angles. Deepfake technology can be used to imitate once's voice too, but that's not needed if the actor did a good vocal job. That AI gimmick is getting more and more available to the general public and with the abundance of data we have of famous persons almost any face can be replaced with that of a celebrity.'

In the video below Jim Meskimen of (Parks & Recreation, Whose Line?, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) recites "Pity the Poor Impressionist" poem in 20 celebrity voices, with the help of SHAM00K ...

'He earned his spurs from a doctor': Gen James Mattis mocks Donald Trump ...

The ex-defence secretary is laughing off an insult hurled at him by the US president. Speaking at a New York charity event a day after Trump demeaned him as 'the world's most overrated general', Mattis joked that he took it as a compliment. 'I'm honoured to be considered that by Donald Trump because he also called Meryl Streep an overrated actress,' he said. 'So I guess I'm the Meryl Streep of generals'
