The antifa (/ænˈtiːfə, ˈæntiˌfɑː/) movement is composed of left-wing, autonomous, militant anti-fascist groups and individuals in the United States. The principal feature of antifa groups is their use of direct action, with conflicts occurring both online and in real life. They engage in varied protest tactics, which include digital activism, property damage, physical violence, and harassment against those whom they identify as fascist, racist, or on the far-right.
Activists involved in the movement tend to be anti-capitalists and subscribe to a range of ideologies, typically on the left. They include anarchists, socialists and communists along with some liberals and social democrats. Their stated focus is on fighting far-right and white supremacist ideologies directly, rather than through electoral means.

Response
Antifa actions have been subject to criticism from Republicans, Democrats and political commentators in the U.S. media. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi condemned the violence of antifa activists in Berkeley on August 29, 2017. Conservative talk show host and Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham suggested labeling antifa as a terrorist organization. Noam Chomsky described them as "a major gift to the right".

Hoaxes
There have been multiple efforts to discredit antifa groups via hoaxes on social media, many of them false flag attacks originating from members of the alt-right and 4chan posing as members of antifa groups on Twitter. Some of these hoaxes have been picked up and reported as fact by right-leaning media.

The above said, the antifa movement ─ apparently spelled without an uppercase initial ─ appears to be a loosely-knit collective, rather than an actual organization, somewhat akin to the hackers of the Anonymous collective.
It is however rumored that George Soros would be behind the movement, but if he is, then it's not because of the movement's left-wing political ideology ─ Soros is a neoliberal capitalist ─ but rather because the often violent activity of the movement is, as Noam Chomsky said, the perfect gift to the right. Antifa embodies the false Hegelian dialectic of "problem, reaction, solution", in this case, by demonizing the left and offering up the right as savior ─ which is exactly what Donald Trump has done, and what he is still doing.
This is why I keep on saying that the US American "left-wing" is not left-wing at all. Both the nationalists and the globalists are right-wing. The only difference lies within their modus operandi, but their ultimate agenda is the same, i.e. American world domination.
