Don't they just numb you? Are you sensitive to novocaine? My friend decided to just be numb for a multi-hour procedure. He did great. He could have chosen mild sedation.

I recently had some work done with no numbing at all. It was only a little uncomfortable.

lol, yeah, usually...It's my WCE syndrome ... White coat effect. I normally have somewhat elevated blood pressure just due to the 'tension' of the situation. The last time I went they were unable to treat me because my blood pressure was in the skyrocket range. As a coworker smartly remarked, "They didn't want me to flatline during the procedure". Usually it's not a problem, just novocaine...last time they tried Nitrous Oxide and I advised them it probably would not work because my mind can be very resistant to manipulation or easily manipulated, it depends entirely on the situation. Anyway, during the application of the nitrous oxide my blood pressure climbed and they finally said forget it ... visit your doctor. My doctor tested me and knowing my history recognized my issues with anxiety and so advised the dentist to use something a little 'stronger'.

The pharmacist that filled the prescription warned me to be careful about how it affected me in terms of driving, etc. I took the dose about an hour prior to the appointment and then awhile later set out on the 10-minute drive. The last thing I remember until about 3-4 hours later was them calling my name. My daughter had to pick me up and when I told them that I had driven the dental nurse was in disbelief. They gave me a full daily dose of Triazolapam (sumpin' like that). Double the recommended dosage for 'easing the nervous system'.

I really don't like my dentist, even though he is a great guy, I just don't think he's that good. Sometimes I feel he has screwed me up more than he has helped. I can still barely open my mouth fully due to the 'forcefulness' of the work. I have an overbite and have been grinding my teeth in my sleep for years. It has caused me a great deal of issues. I should have stuck with the 'nightguard' when I got one thirty years ago.

My normal blood pressure hasn't changed since high school about 120/80

I clench my teeth. I'll probably get one. I get jaw issues now and again related to it. I have no desire to get surgery, so I need to get a guard to help mitigate the long-term effects. I've already had a crown put on a tooth I'd ground down.
