    Queen of Soul

As I was looking into a song sung by the Queen herself I found out she is indeed gravely ill and in the hospital now.

The 76 year old Queen of Soul had deeply sung to my heart many times:

    Indeed...say a little prayer eh?

According to multiple reports, the Queen of Soul is surrounded by 'family and people close to her' in Detroit

Oh Elen I love that song! I don't know if it's the meds I'm on or what but since I found this out I've been deeply moved.

Indeed...I can't stop crying...because the world will lose one more beautiful soul.

    Oh man!

She's got cancer. That so sucks! I just saw the photo and knew that. Then in this article they are hinting that indeed she has been battling cancer for quite some time...

A source very close to Aretha and a longtime dear friend tells TMZ he was told a week ago, "Prepare yourself, she's dying." The source adds Aretha was down to 86 pounds and her health was failing. The source says 2 weeks ago everyone in Aretha's circle was told "she could go any time."

Another source -- someone who has been close to Aretha for decades -- tells TMZ she has been battling cancer.

While her voice is unparalleled, her virtuosity on the piano is severely underrated. Those who knew Franklin called her “a child prodigy” on the keys, who knew how to play fully formed, lush gospel chords without being taught how to voice them. Watch her perform with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra from 2015 and be blown away.

The first song is a Christmas song...but the second is pure Aretha.

You're welcome Dreamtime. I believe she has earned this small tribute I'm presenting here:

She was the first woman to be inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

    Good job ReRe!

If anybody deserved it ...it was her!

Here's a memorable scene from the Blues Brothers movie we've all seen and it ROCKS!

Why stop there...she (Aretha) joined up with Annie Lennox (Scotland) and made this gem! Don't be offended guys...it's not really against guys, it's about girls stepping up to the plate, i.e. out of the kitchen to speak up, .

    Good one Elen! Loved it

Although Respect was a hit for Otis Redding, reaching the top five of the Billboard Black Singles chart, Franklin's rendition spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard Pop Singles chart, and eight weeks on the Black Singles chart.

Redding reportedly didn't like that he had been one-upped by the fast-rising 25-year-old Franklin, and at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival he quipped, "This is a song that a girl took away from me, a good friend of mine. This girl she just took this song. But I'm going to do it anyway." In later performances he added Franklin's "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" and "take care, TCB" which were enormous nods to the young singer's success.

The backup vocalists on Franklin's recording are her sisters — literally

Here's a two-fer from the Blues Brothers again!

Many people covered her songs...this one in particular.

Aretha Franklin first released the song as a single in 1967 and subsequently it appeared on many of her albums.

It won the Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and later a Grammy Hall of Fame Award. In 2004, this song was ranked #249 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

But nobody could belt it out like she did...and this is how she became the

    Queen of Soul!
