Microsoft has been a hated company for a long time already — and for good reason — even within the USA. At one point, it was decided in court that the company should be split up, but then they appealed that decision in another court where the judge was on their payroll, and so it got overruled.

These days, Microsoft isn't even the only malicious tech giant anymore, as the recent news and the pertinent threads about that here at The One Truth have shown. Google is about just as evil now, if not worse. Likewise for Facebook and (to a lesser extent) Apple.

Well, the choices are there. There is an entire ecosystem of Free/Libre & Open Source Software out there, and it is usable for just about everything. In fact, it powers more than 70% of the internet as we know it. What is not there, however, is the political will to use it.

Microsoft has been bribing itself into every government for decades already, and its software is notorious for breaking internationally agreed-upon standards and imposing what we geeks call "vendor lock-in". Once you start relying on Microsoft software, you'll have nowhere else to go, because their stuff is proprietary. And for businesses and governments, this is crucial.

The Belgian Justice Department had been running off of GNU/Linux workstations and an IBM mainframe with AIX — which is another UNIX system — for many years without any problems, but then there were elections and a subsequent change in government, and then it was suddenly decided to switch everything over to Microsoft Windows. Their official explanation was that "they had consulted experts and were given the advice to switch over". I'll give you three guesses as to who those "experts" were.

Indeed. There are way more choices with computers than with cable TV. There is only one option where we are. Cable/internet. Gotta have one with the other. Cable companies tend to dominate markets so there are no other options.

Of course one could get rid of cable altogether and go with satellite or just internet. But it's hard to get just internet without getting cable.

The corporations like to keep us over the barrel.

that is pretty remarkable, Aragorn...it's a head scratcher in fact...the support for some open source tools and frameworks can be somewhat sketchy if perhaps not lacking in high-tech security mechanisms...but still...i'm sure you can imagine the different scenarios that come into play.

I-LOVE-MICROSOFT.I-LOVE-MICROSOFT.I-LOVE-MICROSOFT and I hate IBM in all its incarnations...I worked for them as a student...trust me...those folks be genuine arseholes...

I'm just joking really...I hold no love for any corporation...but I think Bill Gates as an individual is a good force on this gaia-forsaken planet.

Then we're going to have to agree to disagree. The man is a psychopath, and he has been the bane of all progress for 25 years. And Steve Ballmer was just as bad — maybe even worse, because he wasn't even a programmer. Satya Nadella on the other hand is much more "liberal".

I still don't trust Microsoft, but I don't see them as such a threat anymore as they used to be. There are other sharks in the waters now. Like I said, Google is definitely an evil empire, and possibly more evil than Microsoft at the moment.

A lot of people seem to think that because of the Gates Foundation, he can be 'forgiven' for his sins.

I don't buy that. I can't just do a bunch of nice things to avoid sentence if I commit a crime. IMO, he just got away with a bunch of stuff.

There's a thing my brother used to say to me a lot:

The only difference between Republicans and Democrats is Republicans get away with it.

When I'd ask, "What?" his reply was, "It doesn't matter. They don't get caught."

My big brother's advice. Life-long loyal Republican.

It's even worse than that. How many tax-deductible charities can you name that operate with an average 60% profit margin every year? Personally, I can't think of a single one.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation invests in corporations that operate from countries where human rights are being violated on a daily basis, including inside those very corporations themselves. It also invests in the US military-industrial complex and in companies that cause heavy pollution and/or promote illness through their activity. Yes, even Monsanto (soon to be renamed to Bayer), Exxon and Raytheon are on the list of companies they invest in, as is McDonald's.

In the past, the Gates Foundation has also bribed and attempted to bribe foreign governments into the adoption of Microsoft software, and in banning Free & Open Source Software, most notably GNU/Linux. And it worked out well for Microsoft too, except in certain South American countries, like Brazil, where they were kicked out and where all government IT installations were converted to GNU/Linux. The Chinese government has already kicked out MickeySoft quite a while ago.

And of course, the Gates Foundation also donated USD $100'000'000 to Hillary Clinton's campaign in 2016, making them her biggest campaign sponsors, as well as that Melinda Braun-Gates is a regular Bilderberg attendee.
