A Nasa spacecraft is attempting to make history with the closest-ever approach to the Sun.

The Parker Solar Probe is plunging into our star's outer atmosphere to try and help us better understand how the Sun works.

It is out of communication for several days and scientists will be waiting for a signal, expected at 05:00 GMT on 28 December, to see if it has survived.

A Nasa spacecraft has made history by surviving the closest-ever approach to the Sun.

The Parker Solar Probe passed just 3.8 million miles (6.1 million km) from the solar surface on Christmas Eve - enduring temperatures of 1,400C and radiation that could have frazzled its on-board electronics.

The probe moved faster than any human-made object by hurtling at 430,000mph - the equivalent of flying from London to New York in less than 30 seconds.

Scientists hope the mission will help us better our understanding of how the Sun works.

A massive coronal hole has appeared on the Earth-facing side of the Sun for it's eight rotation, and on it's last rotation it triggered a global seismic burst, the strongest of which was a M7.7 in Myanmar-Burma on March 28th. Is another global seismic burst, and more high magnitude 7+ earthquakes, or even a M9+ megathrust earthquake about to happen once this coronal hole's high-speed-stream goes geoeffective? Hey everyone, with this video I am highlighting the science connecting coronal hole high-speed-stream impacts to high magnitude earthquakes, and used Japan's M9.1 March 11th 2011 as an poignant example. We have daily solar synoptic maps going back to 1972, and I checked the Sun for the largest earthquakes M8.5 and greater since then, and large coronal holes are present in the center or geoeffective position of the Sun each time. I put all that data in the video description along with a plethora of relevant research papers. What I am NOT doing is making a specific earthquake prediction. I wish I (or anyone) could and be accurate with that, because it would save countless lives, but this is a new science. That said, the space weather conditions now are eerily similar to when giant earthquakes do pop off, and it's good to A) be aware of that and B) to be prepared if you live in an earthquake prone location. Eventually there will be more M8+ and even M9+ earthquakes, they happen at a fairly regular geologic interval, and we are currently quite overdue. Be blessed and stay safe 🙏
