The Wonderful World of Cats - HD Nature Wildlife Documentary

I love the independent spirit of The Cat. Joanna Lumley is the narrator of this interesting documentary. We are so divided about cats, you either love them or hate them. As always…respect for all life is in order.

Incredible documentary examining the popularity of domesticated cats and their big cat counterparts in the wild - lions, tigers, cheetahs. How one of nature's most efficient killers became one of human's most beloved companions.

She tried to be friendly. The cat became aggressive. Then the dog started chasing the cat away. The cat has an area that is his and the two still interact. We try to encourage them to be friendly but the cat will try to attack the dog. He's really jealous.

But we always had a dog The cat came after. He wasn't always jealous. He wants a certain person to be 'his' and he doesn't want to share.

No, I haven't, but I know people who regularly do.

I've had two cats too once, albeit not at the same time, and it was way back when I was still living together with my first fiancée. The first cat was a Seal Point Siamese named Mousty. We got her from an upstairs neighbor who couldn't really care for her, because he was always out of the house, and that cat was sitting there all alone and crying all day. Siamese cats are very dependent and they require company. She wasn't even a year old yet when we got her, and she was crazy as hell. She would grab meat off the dinner table whenever you weren't looking, and she would also get vicious at times — especially with my ex-fiancée's then-3-year-old little girl, who was not all that innocent either.

My second cat was a male — black with a white tummy and white paws. We rescued him from the shelter, and as he didn't have a name yet, I named him Sylvester, after the cat from the Tweety cartoons. But he was really sweet and very calm. Never once got on the table or grabbed any food from it. The only naughty thing I've ever known him to do was that he would start chewing my guitar cable whenever I was playing.

My ex left me twice — she was a promiscuous and opportunistic narcissist — and on both occasions, she took the cat with her. The first time she left me, she dropped off Mousty at her parents' house. They already had two cats — a female Blue Point Siamese and a male (but neutered) Chartreux — and two dogs. When my ex and I got back together after that first break, she left Mousty at her parents' house, because I was living at an apartment, and now that Mousty had gotten used to living at a house and exploring the outdoors, it would have been wrong to confine her to an apartment again.

So that's when we got Sylvester from the shelter, and when my ex then left me for the second time, she took Sylvester with her as well, but then after about a month or so, the guy whom she had left me for — and whom she had already dumped again in the meantime — told me that my ex had dropped off Sylvester at the shelter again because he was supposedly "too difficult to handle". It makes me wonder what in the world she must have done to that cat then, because Sylvester was one of the calmest and most easy-going cats you can imagine. On the other hand, my ex's brother, who is still a friend of mine, told me that Mousty lived to be 23 years old, and that she was still mischievous until her last day.

I don't currently have any pets anymore — unless you count dust bunnies — but my brother has a (now aging) female cat and a male border collie. The collie hates the cat, even though she was there at the house long before him, but he's an alpha male and he has always had that domineering trait about him. Even though he has been neutered — he was developing too much testosterone and it made him aggressive and hard to handle — he still barks aggressively at other male dogs and attempts to chase them away. When he encounters a female dog, then he's not aggressive at all. Instead, he'll sniff her out. But like I said, he's been neutered, so there wouldn't be much else for him to try.

Wow, still aggressive after neutering. We had a female dog who was an alpha. She challenged all other dogs, even ones much larger. She was about 55lbs.

I like cats overall, I wish I could find someone who wants a big, very affectionate cat. He's almost ten though and people think that's old.

I tend to think of Joanna Lumley as Patsy from “Absolutely Fabulous”

...so it’s weird to me that she’s doing a fluff piece on cats...

I adore cats but we don't have any living with us at the moment. I'm working on it ... but in the meantime,
we're having fun making up a list of possible names for any future felines we might invite to live with us.

It's a brilliant game - the latest one is Lufu (from the Old English for love) which i think goes nicely
with Yakpo (Tibetan for good) and Yofi (Hebrew for lovely).

    I'm nothing if not pretentious

If you'd lived here in the UK, you'd realise that there's MUSH more to Joanna Lumley that Ab Fab.

my daughter 'blessed' me with two cats...she promised to care of them but, of course, never did until now. ahh, sweet karma, since I'm working in another city she has the responsibility to care for them when I'm away...

Male is now about 5 i think ...it's a rescue...Tabby and Maine Coon, the female is a little over one now, inherited from one of her friends... Seal Point Siamese and Tabby with what my neighbor says has unusual markings as it looks like a Siamese. The Siamese is very standoffish so far but very gentle which I find surprising because one of my ex-girlfriends had a Siamese and the thing always treated me like food. The male is male in its behavior, doesn't like to be picked up but always wants to be around and close to the point of being annoying.

the male's name is Kitty Cat
the female's name is Little Kitty. I think they hate their names because they never come when I call them.
