I know people who will be affected by loss of work and/or income.

I almost lost pay in the very first shutdown under Bush. I was told by every Republican I knew that I shouldn't blame him, I should blame the Dems in Congress. I believe they had the majority at the time, so there was something of a point to be made. I would have had many troubles if I hadn't gotten paid, esp. since I was working and had earned it.

I remember how that felt. It sucked.

The reason I got paid is because the University helped to make it happen. I don't exactly recall how anymore.

The party in the minority is not responsible for this. The one that holds all three branches is.

Well, I lost my last job in the 2013 debacle where 3 million small business govt contractor employees lost our “jobs”...they reappeared a few months later as “large” contractor company jobs.

The pattern that seems to repetitively reappear finds those in favor as you said--those not in favor can wind up in the obituaries. BTW, your term "gooberment" suggests Modwiz shared his view with you, as that's similar to the term he uses.

I stole Wizzy’s term...after working for the gooberment for 44+ years I have to agree they are a bunch of goobers.

Nope, employment is up in San Diego and Slowdona, my condo rents are up, 3 weeks on the beach were grand, everyone seems to be fairly happy except when they watch TV.

We need time for the tax cuts to take effect and the money to trickle upwards. So far big business is giving itself bonuses and announcing pay raises for workers while it fires more of them than got a raise. A lot of people haven't figured out yet that they just got screwed on health care through the tax bill.

It looks like The new Tax “Plan” is a net positive for me, but We’re a weird case. Like everyone else, I was terrorized by the news, but when I crunched numbers it looks ok. But we’ll really see after the tax accountant works his magic.

They have a shutdown every other year. Seems pretty farcical. Hurry up and spin out of control already.

If we spin out of control, so do a whole lot of other people. Inside the Merry-go-round the force isn't so strong. On the outer edges you get thrown off.

Are you on the edge Dreamy? I thought you were one of the 1% fat cats doing vacations on Coronado.
