Umm what I got from Mr Maihi's journey was how each cultures' artwork is their identity and a last bastion of expression when that culture has been marginalised. These cultural creative skills tell stories or serve functions which must be kept alive, but they also serve to keep the people alive, both in their collective identity, but also as a form of healing. It is not particularly about race conflict in my view.

The videos above are intriguing to show some of the old way of white imperial thinking. Such a thing is abhorrent to me, such a person like the one first interviewed should be retrospectively aborted. Sadly, there are quite a few who live by the same ideals as this fellow yet would swear black and blue they are culturally diverse.

Yeah they were quite interesting and opened up a whole section of facepalming for me, cheers!
There is a section of people here in NZ that want to fight for their caucasian culture. But not quite as blatantly bigoted as seen in those videos. But then, one could argue that bigotry IS part of caucasian culture.

Yes, some of my ancestors came to New Zealand in 1854 as European settlers. But over the last 163 years there has been a little bit of a mix going on, for everyone. I changed the word European to Caucasian. The white people of this world also have disconnects in culture. In some ways it becomes what you identify with. The British history of imperialism and empire building has left many thinking that that is their culture, and part of dealing with that 'schism' in their hearts, has been using bigotry to normalise and justify that position.
I used to be the type who carried white guilt for the actions of those who look like me, that in itself is a form of control, a form of division. It is a bit of a minefield out there, personal ideal vs personal ideal, culture vs culture, so many scars being carried by people who never fought the original battles. New battles conjured up out of the rhetoric of the past.
Much of the time I don't know who or what I am any more.

Wonderful and AWESOME....I believe we need aboriginals to show the way everywhere as they are still connected to Nature/Mother Earth and the energy of LOVE.

Thanks Nothing I feel the LOVE and INSPIRATION. When peoples all over the world can meet on a feeling level all differences disappear and the recognition of the same breath becomes a reality.......... culturem race, ethinicity, etc. is a way to stay differentiated, unique and special however this is just an outside way to address ego IMO and the need for validation and recognition. When we meet on a feeling basis this is all bypassed without notice while rejoiceing in oneness..... Time also passes without notice......

What a fantastic post, very enlightening Sandy, such things truly are a double edged sword. I see humans as creative beings and their creations are all different yet all the same as they speak about our connections with the environment and each other. It is a fine line to tread between things being differences to celebrate and differences we see as division. The similarities are there for all to see as well. That magic triangle between Eye, Hand, and Heart. Though the ear and the lips could be interchanged there.
