    So-called artist posts artwork...

    Okay, I will bite.

3 random images spanning a few years. I don't usually like to go posting my work as there are times people think I am showing off or something, still seems you can't win either way.

    1996

Oh and a photo of a film set, yes that tree is a fake tree from Narnia - Prince Caspian, that I already had uploaded for some reason.

If I were you, I would not give a sh*t what negative people think about the work You are supposed to show it off, and there will always be those who like and those who do not like, each for their own reasons.

of course, that is what art is...nice stuff...I'm going to show them to my resident art critic...my daughter...I always ask her to compare herself to other artist's work to see how she feels she stacks up...

Hi Nothing, Have you ever done any work in a tool called Sculptiss? My daughter was just introduced to digital 3d art.

    Is that tree your creation?

I haven't used sculptiss but did have a bit of a period of using 3d software like 3d Studio Max 4 and Bryce 3d. That was a long time ago though, maybe nearly 20 years. I still use photoshop now and then, mainly for work things.

Umm the tree yes, it was a group effort, I was in charge of painting it to look how it does, which was a bit of a waste of 2 weeks as it ended up being shot at night and the time I spent getting it to match all the rest of the trees in 4-5 different lighting scenarios was pointless. The tree was fabricated 1200km away from the location and shipped in pieces then joined up again. It cost around $750k NZD by the time it was ready to shoot.
https://youtu.be/8qONSyg_Was?t=2m55s here it is on film. Most of my work on that job was shown within the first 5-10 mins as I also was in charge of painting the London subway set in the scene following this one.

Thanks Sandy and Kathy. There's quite a variance in the range of styles in other paintings, abstract to impressionist to photorealism, but usually that same feeling is present.

Cool, I love trees...looks like painting must be your forte, huh. I love the look of that movie...

Funny thing about my daughter's painting, it almost seems an oddity, maybe a thing, but in my biased opinion she does just beautiful tree leaves and flowers. She did a school mural where she was responsible for the tree leaves...beautiful.

The Bryce 3D comment brought back some memories. I was heavily into that along with Photoshop of course. I guess Bryce is still available on PCs?

No idea really, it was way back then. Mainly played with 3D Max, Photoshop, and After Effects.

Great artwork, Nothing! Are you inviting others to post their artworks as well? It would be a good idea to share our work here, hey?

Perhaps you didn't know this yet, but Nothing has created an album here with some of his work.

By all means Elen, my photo albums are just for holding reference photos that have been used in posts and aren't art galleries. There's a few landscape photos that are nice to look at I suppose.

This thread was created in response to another members' recent vitriolic comments. I personally would have chosen a more charming term and title, but we are using their choice of words here.

As I have gone on and on here before, about art, and the psychology of the practice of making, some may have succeeded in reading through it, and may recall that I consider everyone to be an artist in what they "do" that is "their thing". Their zone of creativity. My life has been nothing but art really. I began drawing at the age of 4 and kept doing it, along the way there have been people who want to whip your legs for their own reasons, firstly at school, and then when it came to work and one became seen with equal jealousy.

All along the way it has been intriguing.
The way I see it is I am good at some things, but appalling at other things in life.
There are some things which I would give up any skills I have, to be able to do.
It is ironic sometimes when some of those who lash out at me might hold skills which would be such.
In my mind, there is no competition. Sure there is comparison and measuring of difference.
Sometimes even one can grade the comparisons and choose their own favourites, but it is only an individual favourite.
In lots of ways I have been blessed to work in the job I do, even with its erratic nature (we have just had several jobs fall through here and I have now been out of work for 6 months). It provides a good income without being a 9-5 365 treadmill. The scale of things and the money spent in making things has allowed me to not be too much of a precious self absorbed loner. Haha. I mean that in a nice way.
I am aware of how I can come across in the way I type. Well aware, but often don't understand why people come to certain conclusions about my character from the style of writing. It is not frequent, but there are times here, and especially elsewhere that a small few seem to think I am arrogant or something. I find that intriguing and there are usually commonalities in such peoples personalities.

I must close the post as I will go on and on. The short version is, yes, if any one wishes to post images or sound bites or text here, they are very welcome, and I personally won't consider them so-called artists. We don't tend to do that from where I am coming from. It would be fantastic to share in such things.

Gio, just for the record — and you know we love you, Bro — I've personally cleaned up that other thread by dropping everything I was doing and deleting nine (9) posts full of 15th-century-Highlander-style headbutting between an Italian and a Kiwi from it, so I would appreciate it if you could spare me the trouble of having to do the same thing on this thread here as well.

Between posting on the forum, fixing bugs, keeping members from going head-to-head with one another and having to read what was without a shred of doubt the most personally hurtful and vitriolic private message I've received in years, I've sort of had my share of shit for the day, you know?

I have every right to respond Aragorn, perhaps you need to stop 'cleaning up' legitimate posting ?

PS ~ i take offence that you ( and others) keep referring to me as an 'Italian' ~
FYI - my mother's family were Welsh and German.
