    Jim Carrey?

There is a thread from 2014 on here, Jim Carrey is "Sick and Tired of the Secrets and Lies"

In the past few weeks or more it looks like there has been a bit of a dash for the wall being made.

I've always felt a deep instinctual repulsion towards this man. I have no idea why.

I know what you mean, I have similar feelings. Like a phobia of a clown without make up, the facial expressions which are his trade mark always feel conceited and therefore sinister. To me.

I haven't viewed the videos so I can't comment on that.

But if you had seen the documentary on his history you might have a completely different notion. When he started he was tomatoed off the stage. He was determined to be better and as his biographer said, other comics that they interviewed about him stated they had never seen anyone become better and even brilliant as quickly as he did. He's an amazing physical comedian.

When he started, he was playing to the kids who loved his physical humor. Gave me the creeps as well. I do think his movie “The Mask” is classic.

The Truman Show is probably the film I'd appreciate the most of his, for it's content and lack of Carrey grin chinning.
I don't really remember the plot of The Mask, but seem to remember there being a touch of hidden message to be gained if one chose to see it regards the power of persona and the question of faking it till you make it, and the pitfalls of narcissism and ego mania and how people desire to be something they are not because of what society says is desirable.

I don't know, I guess I identified with him in a bizarre way. I felt like he really didn't understand himself but just really really had a need to be goofy to his heart's content. His ability to tap that urge and remain sane has always been a challenge for him but it is in my opinion what makes him great. I dont think egotism has ever driven him, I think it's more his competitive drive that sets him over the edge of balance. Creepy, I can see that, but it is because his creativity is unmatched and out of kilter - out of phase . He is noboby but can be anybody at the same time.

Yeah well the sentiment which is put out in bits of the videos is interesting regards his self image. I was having connection issues at the time of posting and hadn't watched all of the videos entirely at that time, and some of them repeat themselves in bits, but the main points on what he is up to are in there.

Funny how every silver lining has a cloud. For if we were to ignore the video topic and just do a character analysis we could say how he breaks down pretence and makes it okay to be quirky or worse and that people should just relax about and sense of need in putting forth some persona of faultless sophistication. Yet on the other hand one could say that his persona is, as it gets coined, (well by the documentary, "The Merchants of Cool"), a form of 'The Mook'. Which is a term for the male character most favoured for advertising purposes where the male entity is not to be taken seriously. He might be the Jackass crew or Homer or Bart Simpson, he is reckless and maybe clumsy, a bit of a clown who doesn't seem to have cares about the more serious side of life.
Just to note the same doco calls the female persona that is favoured most, 'The Midriff'.

If anybody should be a comedian it is the narrator of the 3rd video... either that or a right wing operative... my God, is there no limit to where these people will go?

It was actually the Bush administrations that busted the world wide open. The psychic trauma visited on the right very nearly split the collective consciousness of the conservative in two.

Yeah, that one in particular I almost removed, but decided to leave in for a bit of extra hysteria. It was a little unclear what side he was trying to take at times! I thought one of those videos was going to have the video of him making his bearded speech they were referring to and putting audio overlays of.

Anyway still interesting, but it wasn't meant to be NEWS and UPDATES though, it somehow jumped out of the section I placed it in, which gives the impression some huge recent revelation has been made.

There's no doubt in my mind that this guy is A) a genius B) a wacko C) a highly empathetic person.

As I'm a weirdo and an empathetic person too I could relate to him. Behind his smile there was kind of a sadness behind his eyes. I think he has been searching for the meaning of life and might have found some kind of an answer. He knows Eckhart Tolle so obviously he must have gotten some guidance from him too or at least from his books.

I grew up watching his crazy comedies, but later I saw more of his serious roles too. Or if you'd like some melancholic romance then by all means watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. For some reason people tend to either love or hate these comedian type fellows. Another example is Russell Brand, some people absolutely despise him... I am one of the people who really like him, because we hear and see him as he is instead the image he is putting out. It's just a front, a protection from the harsh, cold world. Inside they're very deep, sensitive, loving persons as often artists tend to be. They're the trickster archetype, as Jung would put it.

...also, “Man on the Moon” challels Andy Kaufman extremely well. Danny Devito said he stayed in character on the set and drove everyone nuts.

I never thought Elvis was funny...I'm very basic in my favorite comedy types...Jim Carrey, Jerry Lewis, 3-Stooges, Dick Van Dyke...never really liked Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin, or the Marx Brothers. Though I loved 'You Bet Your LIfe"... I think that was Groucho's. In days gone bye I was described as having a Groucho Marx moustache and without the moustache someone once told me that I looked liked Harpo...go figure...
