Or, you could simply be more careful when publicly citing your sources, rather than deflecting with sarcasm when someone actually challenge one. It's up to you Rolf, I'm off to other things now.
Any critically thinking individual who has been investigating the nature of our universe, for any length of time, will have heard of the Thunderbolts Project.

This group is made-up of Plasma Physicists, other disciplines of science, and researchers, wherein the phenomenon of The Electric Universe is proffered. Their YouTube channel (linked above) contains years of study into the effect of Plasma within the Universe. Their website is linked on their YouTube Channel. Their theories are, for the most part, rejected by mainstream astrophysicists and cosmologists, however, to each individual associated with that site, all are highly certified, and qualified in the fields in which they articulate.

Ben Davidson (SuspiciousObservers) is a trusted contributor to The Thunderbolts Project. His status is well respected by the other contributors to that site. That's "peer-reviewed" enough for me. (see the link to his page under, "Cool Related Channels".

I've been listening to and linking videos produced by The Thunderbolts Project for well over the past five years (or so). I personally trust, and recommend everything they have produced.

I've never looked into Ben's background and I don't know what he did before this. He's certainly working pretty hard. He's helped found the Observing the Frontier conferences. And he puts out challenges to NASA and scientists to address his earthquake prediction stuff.

I'm not a scientist. I do know it's hard to get published. There's politics in science just like every other field. When you're doing fringe science, it's going to be hard to break into the mainstream. But it happens sooner or later, as long as the science is good. Politicizing publication and squelching research only last so long. Eventually, the scientific demonstrations break through and new paradigms come in.

Ben isn't a scientist, but he seems to be helping to pioneer new ideas and approaches.

Everything changes over time. Plus we have the Earth-facing energy attenuation that Ben Davidson has commented on. I doubt we'll get smacked until I get my house in order...then the universe will end.

You buds with Murphy then, Dumpy?

Does a minimum mean an active spot will fade sooner? That 'earth facing quiet' phenomenon has been quite persistent.

As in Murphy's Law? Yeah, but usually only when I don't "do the math." ...Murph hates math.

I've no idea how coronal holes grow or weaken, but I think the powers that be still want to throw some more crap at us hamsters before the big killshot happens, but thinking on it, it should happen the day before of the very last episode of Game of Thrones for maximum pain and suffering of said hamsters.

Murph may hate math, but even more than that he hates being ignored completely, and merely thinking about him can bring him out of his hole.

I believe it was a sunspot which caused the blast towards Mars. It had a number. Gio also posted a video about it.

I've only just spotted this thread. There seems to be some confusion. Maybe I can explain solar flares, CMEs and EMPs.

A solar flare instantly emits X-rays and UV light. The main effect is to very strongly ionise the ionosphere's D layer which screws up short wave communications from a few minutes to a few hours. The general public have no contact with short wave radio these days; nothing we use depends upon radio wave propagation via the ionosphere. No need to worry about that.

Often, following a solar flare there is a coronal mass ejection (CME) which is atomic particles ejected from the sun. These particles take about 48 hours to reach earth. Sometimes faster, sometimes slower. It is this radiation that caused the aurora. This radiation if strong enough (and that's quite rare) can damage satellites. It also disrupts the ionosphere's ionisation for a day or two, but in a completely different way to a solar flare. But again, unless you have any dealings with short wave/HF radio, you'll not notice.

However, these atomic particles buffet the earth's magnetic field making it swing about - sometimes very significantly. This moving magnetic filed induces electric currents in the ground and also in very long power lines. These line are designed to carry AC, but a moving magnetic field can induce a significant DC off-set which can damage transformers. Power companies are well aware of this and reckon they can manage 99.9% of CMEs. There have been some outages caused by CMEs, in the past, but nothing very widespread in the past 100 years or so! Nevertheless, it is the possible catastrophic failure of the power grids in a Carrington Event (1859) which the doom-porn merchants get exited about. If ten's of thousands of power grid distribution transformers burn out, they are simply not the sort of item kept in store. Light out for a long time.

An EMP is quite different. It is an electromagnetic pulse with a very rapid leading edge and if strong enough will induce voltages in anything connected to wires which will act as receiving antennas for the pulse. I know of no natural phenomenon that can do this - despite what you might see on the internet. Possibly a nearby supernova, but even then the leading edge won't be that steep and will have spread out as it passes through space towards us. The real EMP threat is from nuclear weapons - some are specifically designed to create this.

All this information is widely published. I've worked with RF for decades, often with short wave/HF signals and I can tell you that in all that time the most intense experience was March 6, 1989. Anyone remember that? No. Followed by April 2, 2001. Don't suppose anyone remembers that either. You see, despite all the doom porn about these events, they have had no significant effect on modern society. Yes, a big one may well do, but there's stuff on here suggesting 'kill shots' are any time now. And the same characters have been predicting it for years and years.

So next time you read some scary stuff about the sun, EMPs CMEs, etc., feel free to read though this again.

If anyone else has first hand experience, please let us know.

    Thanks.

There is a sunspot/CME watch on now and we are getting some of the effects now as the backside sunspot grouping comes over the Sun's western limb:

I came across a video by R Wayne Steiger who doesn't normally do sun stuff but he's commenting on this sunspot group that's coming back around. He mentions the "Earth Quiet Effect" at the very beginning of the video. This is the first I've heard someone else use the phrase in their own video.

You're gonna love this, Dumpy. Ben begins by quoting from the Maunders' book The Heavens and Their Story, p.192. "...We find that the earth kills the spots, and that to a degree that is out of proportion with its size." There was an earth facing quiet then, too.
