My son saw humpbacks breach when we did an Alaska cruise. I didn't see it. I've seen them from a distance, mostly tails and spouts. I've had a lot of good dolphin or porpoise sightings from beaches and have also seen them from cruise ships.

I can only wish, it's on my bucket list to see some whales and dolphins before I leave this plane of existence!

I know I'll get hated for this one:

My neighbor's wife told me this morning a hawk tried to get my cat but he fought it off ... apparently ... he's still here but yesterday i did notice that he has shed some blood here and there but I couldn't find any wounds on him though I did notice him to be limping a little ... I wasn't sure.

My neighbor asked me this morning if I was going to keep my cat inside now and I said, I wasn't sure. I told him I had this thing about animals being kept in confined spaces. I feel that sort of existence is contrary to their natural instincts. To keep them cooped up is akin to denying them a fulfilling life. I don't prefer to have pets for that reason alone but I inherited the baby kitty from my daughter.

I do care about him and i do care for him ... I try to give him some momentary respite from the trials and tribulations of the wild life but I can't get myself to restrain him. I think he would appreciate it ... I always keep my back door open, weather permitting so he can come and go as he pleases. That has its own problems. His nemesis across the street, a.k.a. Max, a.k.a. The Black Monster comes over and helps himself to my poor defenseless kitty kat's food while he just watches passively as the monster does it. If he is in the mood that is, they have fought for years with my cat usually getting the worst of it, but I think the balance changed over time ... The Black monster has made overtures to be friends with defenseless kitty kat but he will have none of it.

I thought this was really interesting on a number of levels. I'd like to try the experiment on my cat but he knows the house too well.

No doubt about that Elen, but there it is a nutshell, though. Humans trying to make animals subservient, but in this case ostensibly for the kitty cat's benefit. A cat such as that is so 'natural' he/she, actually by the coloring it is female, doesn't belong living in a human environment. But there is a lot of cat vs. human issues playing out there. If cats aren't 'socialized' early, at least to some degree they never will be. The cat is a danger to any bystanding 'innocents'. Proceed with extreme caution.

And does anyone here recognize that critter in the photo? If you do, then you'll also know where the photo was taken.

Let's see who the smarties are around here.
