    Good Dog! Good Mink!

If you like rats, this would not be the video for you. If you have ever had a rat problem, you might hire a team like this.

My son's girlfriend once had a marmot come to the campfire and crawl on her as if it was her pet. She was a bit freaked out at the time. Marmots, minks, ferrets, weasels, otters, mongoose, fishers, ermine...it's a fantastic family of animals.

At four minutes he mentions cats and the carnage they wreak upon native bird populations. He does not like the hypocrisy of some commenters. Cats can be a problem which is why there has been a movement for quite some time now to both keep them indoors and have them fixed. Some folks declaw their cats, but I saw that first hand and would never do it. Those poor cats were never the same afterwards.

Look at the pile of vegetables at 6:47. What's up with that?

I had schoolyard friend whose family raised mink ... A group of us spent a day at his farm. One of the things we did was sharpen sticks and wade out into river and try to spear fish. I was the only one that got a fish that day. The neanderthal runs deep in me ... rats really suck!

This reminds me a little of the fellow with the hawks who travels to fruit farms to scare off birds who eat the fruit.

I don't recall if it was on this forum...there was an old black and white video of Irish farmers using rat terriers to catch rats in the potato fields. They lined up with their pitchforks and a slew of dogs. Then they turned over the earth to reveal the rats and the dogs went wild! There were a lot of rats. It was carnage. And I'm glad it was in black and white.

    Rats have followed humans everywhere.

We call rats plague bringers, while we bring them everywhere.

My neighbour told us that he's caught two rats lately and is planning on getting more of them. Synchronicity going on here Dreamtimer.

One day we'll deal with them in a better way, they are smarter than dogs and cats.

It's not just rats, by the way, but all kinds of invading species and pests, even non-indigenous plants that threaten the natural ecosystem ─ some are poisonous, while others suffocate other plants.

He works for a non-profit organization which itself works for the province. He doesn't like killing the animals, but he knows he has to, and he does it as mercifully as possible. They also catch feral cats ─ which is a very difficult and dangerous enterprise ─ and then those cats are taken to a special facility where they are sterilized or neutered, and then they're set free again.

So true. My yard is an homage to invasive species: multiflora rose, japanese honeysuckle, japanese stipple grass, wavy-leaf basket grass - scourge! - mile-a-minute, and more.

The cats are indeed dangerous when feral. There was an Animal Planet (I think) episode where a man had a house full of cats and it had gotten out of control. The house was filled with feces and urine. The animal control folks had to wear masks due to the ammonia. They had stacks of cat boxes. I think there were twenty-something of them. Many cats had mange, parasites, etc.

The workers were marveling that the man had been able to live inside the house in such conditions.

In this case, crazy cat man.
