Good question! I’ve no idea! I can only surmise that, based on his future performances as a highly skilled and practised orator, he was one of those people who found it much easier to express his passions and convictions through speech rather than the written word.

His close friend, August Kubizek, described in his book “The Young Hitler I Knew” that Hitler would use him as a sounding board, holding forth for hours about his ideas and schemes - it seemed he would give speeches to anyone who’d listen! Several of his fellow residents at the Meldemannstrasse dormitory in Vienna where Hitler lived for three years from 1910 published their memories of him discussing politics, giving long, opinionated speeches about the events of the time.

His form of fascism was all about energy action, passion, power and will - and the best way to deliver those is through speech. As a narcissist, he was also self-obsessed and righteous, believing he had been chosen to fulfil a mission.
Maybe this quotation from Main Kampf would throw some light on why he preferred to dedicate his energy towards the spoken word, seeing the possibiltles of captivating and manipulating the masses:

“I know that men are won over less by the written than by the spoken word, that every great movement on this earth owes its growth to orators and not to great writers.”
