Yes, we lost another good one from our/my generation and it is sad but normal. The body of his work, encoded with his voice, will stay with us.

"Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die".

I spoke those words and the rest when I officiated at my father's funeral. After one visit to the site, it was the last time. His friends had left him shots of whiskey, lol. Loved it.

My husband was good friends with Duane Allman until Duane's death in 1971. He wasn't as close to Gregg, but nonetheless there is grieving in our home today at the loss of a friend.

I'd like to picture the brothers making heavenly music...together once again.

What a wonderful 'send-off' for your dad...powerful words and whiskey. From my dad's grave you can see the basketball court where he and his friends spent many hours when they were young. I returned only once, when my mom died and was buried next to him. No sense in going to the graves...they aren't there.

My sympathies, Brother. My own parents left his Earth quite a long time ago already, but I am still sporadically in contact with the spirit of my mother, and others have also noticed that she maintains a contact link with this reality. She left the door open for some reason.

The most important thing is for you to realize that they're never really gone. They've just become invisible and they've moved up a few floors in the building. But they're still there. And I'm sure you know this.

Sorry, IMO another "sold-his-soul for rock and roll" Satanic sign-ups.

But do I hope he has burned off some karma to make up for his misdeeds.

Gregg sold his soul? I've watched all the docs on this subject and never once heard Gregg or the ABB mentioned despite the oddities surrounding the deaths of Duane and Berry. Could you please cite why you believe Gregg sold out?

Have to add - not sure how to make sense of the fact that all these 'satanic sell-outs' had mega-amounts more astounding soulfulness than so many other musicians.

Virtually everybody had/has to sell out to succeed.

    Here's a sample site:

There are numerous others. These poor souls are not heroes.

I think many are heroes for what they had to endure to keep up delivering the immense value they contributed to the enjoyment of life of myself and so many others. It's not as if they spent their time basking in some glow of admiration and the riches of every kind that they really did get in return. Yes there were and very much so are today very conscious sell-outs, but I think many earlier artists were naive talented musicians who were recognized and exploited and didn't exactly know what they were getting mired into until too deep, Gregg Allman in that category. The Allmans also didn't ever have anyone adding satanic imagery to their album covers.

The only reference to the Allmans in the above very scholarly well-written observations of the occultic side of the early rock era was ..."...According to one sensationalistic television special I saw, the Allman Brothers Band used to spend time at Johnson's grave and apparently picked up some kind of a curse by hanging out there- hence the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley..." The author does however make a compelling case for much exceptional music of any genre getting inspired in a drug state. I'm still trying to add up how music so soulful is birthed from such a soulless and ugly dark place.

But back to why some are heroes -few people think about the relentless sucking on their energy from all the hangers on and usurpers, the loss of anonymity and isolation of having few to trust, the dogged personal hell of the drug and alcoholism state and the totally unfun part of the majority of every day of a tight scheduled moving moving moving day after day when on the road as the lifetime price paid to deliver their music on a mass scale year after year. I guess you would still say original Allman Brothers drummer Butch Trucks killed himself last January despite 50+ years of the loftiest success and satanic payoffs.

Anyway, that's why I disagree that it's a black and white subject and that all great music is the result of a conscious selling out. I wonder if it's more often being lured into drugs and alcohol to make great music, then exploited with satanic principles without their consent in the 'nonconsent' cases, in comparison to Jay-Z, Combs, Sabbath, Madonna, Katy Perry as examples of fully conscious sell out.

When they started out, it was all about the music. Duane was a highly respected and much sought after studio musician for many in the music business back then...between making their own albums and touring, he would be found in the studio making music for others and loving it.

If anything did them in, it was dealing with the fame.

    "It's all about the music."

Nothing in big music biz is really about the music. It's about control...of YOU.

You may want to do a little research...or maybe not. But I think this forum is about opening eyes. It's like a 12 step program.

    I said,

DD, I'm not talking in generalities or making blanket statements. I'm speaking specifically about Duane and Gregg. I was there when they started out....Nashville, Georgia, California, Florida...when they got their first record contract...when Gregg started using drugs...when Duane died.

Research? Do you mean Laurel Canyon? Deeper? Not sure my eyes could be opened much further. I've been at this for a long time. That doesn't mean I know everything there is to know. If you have any avenues of research you think I might not have trespassed already, I would welcome your suggestions.
