I saw Lou Reed's back as he performed in Amsterdam in 1974. I was sitting on the top of the stage of this beautiful concert hall, when he came on, being carried by two roadies, or body guards, dont know which. To get to the front of the stage was a matter of going down some steps, and then cross the stage itself, maybe 25 feet. He was so out of it that he had to be put in place in front of the microphone from where he never shifted until they carried him away again. Was it just part of the show, to keep the myth going?
Today I have a totally different attitude towards all those rock "giants" than back then.
What type of music might they have produced had they been sober?
Society was terribly repressed before their appearance, so I can honor their path, as having opened the doors of perception, but where has all that taken us?
Because their message has in the long run only produced people who are resigned to play the role of robot during the week, waiting for the next weekend binge, at the nearest rock concert.
